Watch Now: Duo Devices Breaking In Large Numbers
Apple’s latest foldable iPhone Duo is already attracting plenty of attention, but some early observations from reviewers and owners suggest that the device may need a little more time to mature. From app compatibility to concerns around the central hinge and display, the Duo has shown a few quirks that potential buyers should be aware of. One of the most noticeable observations comes from the display. Some owners have claimed that the screen appears to crack along the central hinge, with a visible white pixel line appearing on the display. In some cases, users have reportedly said that this happened only a few hours after unboxing the device, while a few claims suggest it occurred during the initial setup itself. The exact cause has not been confirmed.

There have also been reports of some Apple Stores exchanging affected devices for fresh models, although these claims remain unverified. Some customers were also facing issues with the User Interface. MKBHD highlighted the issue that could become less significant over time: the app compatibility. Certain apps currently do not appear to be optimized perfectly for the Duo’s unique display, leaving blank spaces on parts of the screen. However, this is something that could improve considerably as developers update their apps and introduce proper compatibility. Within the next few months, the software experience could therefore become much more seamless.

Watch Now: iPhone Duo Durability: Destroyed
Durability has also been put to the test. JerryRigEverything’s testing showed an interesting weakness involving the hinge. When sand was placed on the iPhone Duo, the hinge prevented the device from shutting properly. In other words, while the Duo may survive everyday use, taking it to the beach might not be the best idea. The device does come with a matte cover that provides an additional layer of protection, which could be useful for owners looking to keep the phone protected during regular use. Interestingly, the Duo also demonstrated considerable structural strength during bending tests. It did not break when bent in the opposite direction, showcasing the strength of its construction. However, that does not mean the phone emerged completely unharmed. Internal damage occurred, resulting in green and white lines appearing on the screen.
For now, these observations highlight an important point: the iPhone Duo appears to be a promising piece of hardware, but as with any first-generation foldable, durability and software optimization will be closely watched. Apple’s response, future software updates and long-term owner experiences will ultimately determine how these early concerns play out.
