Apple has officially rolled out iOS 26.2 Public Beta 2 for eligible iPhones, bringing several new features, UI refinements, and under-the-hood improvements. This update mirrors many additions introduced earlier this week in the third developer beta, with the highlight being a smart new AirDrop feature that makes sharing files with non-contacts easier than ever.

If you’re part of Apple’s Public Beta Program, here’s everything new in iOS 26.2 Public Beta 2, including the full list of supported devices and steps to install it on your iPhone.

What’s New in iOS 26.2 Public Beta 2?

    1. New AirDrop Sharing With Non-Contacts

The biggest upgrade in this beta is the one-time AirDrop code.
Users can now generate a unique code and share it with someone who is not saved in their contacts. Once the code is verified, both users can exchange files over AirDrop for up to 30 days.

You can review or remove these temporary connections anytime by navigating to:
Settings → General → AirDrop → Manage Known AirDrop Contacts

    2. Improved Liquid Glass Level in Measure App

Apple continues to refine the redesigned Liquid Glass–style Level view introduced in the previous beta.
The new update enhances the UI so readings remain visible even from angles where numbers were previously blocked or distorted.

    3. Side-Button Action Expansion (Japan Only)

Apple is preparing a major change for users in Japan, one that allows them to choose what happens when they press and hold the Side Button.

Currently, this gesture launches Siri. With iOS 26.2, users in Japan will soon be able to select other voice assistants such as:

    • Google Gemini
    • Amazon Alexa

9to5Mac reports that multiple references to this feature appear in the beta, suggesting it will launch officially with the iOS 26.2 release.

How to Install iOS 26.2 Public Beta 2

If you want to try out the new features early, follow these steps:

    1. Sign up for Apple’s Public Beta Program:
Visit Apple Beta Software Program website.
    2. On your iPhone, go to Settings → General → Software Update.
    3. Tap Beta Updates and select iOS 26.2 Public Beta.
    4. Return to the Software Update page and wait for the update to appear.
    5. Accept the terms and begin downloading.
    6. Once the download is complete, installation will begin automatically.

Should You Install the iOS 26.2 Public Beta?

Beta software gives early access to new features, but it may include bugs. If you’re comfortable with occasional glitches or you have a secondary device, this beta is worth trying especially for the new AirDrop enhancements.
