When I reviewed the POCO X8 Pro Max a few months ago, its 9,000mAh battery was the headline feature that took no time in grabbing my fancy. After living with the phone for an extended period, I’m happy to report that the battery isn’t just a spec-sheet gimmick; it remains the defining aspect of the ownership experience.
What Has Aged Well?
The battery life continues to be exceptional. Even after two months of daily use, the phone comfortably lasts two days on a single charge. On lighter days, I’ve even found myself stretching it into a third day. The psychological freedom of not constantly thinking about battery percentage is something few smartphones offer today.
Performance has held up equally well. The Dimensity 9500s remains blisteringly fast, apps launch instantly, multitasking feels effortless, and gaming performance is as impressive as it was on day one. BGMI, Genshin Impact, and other demanding titles continue to run smoothly without excessive heating.
The AMOLED display also remains a highlight. Its deep blacks, vibrant colours, and excellent outdoor visibility make it a pleasure to use for content consumption. Whether watching videos, scrolling through social media, or reading articles, the display continues to impress.
What Started To Annoy Me?
The weight. At 218 grams, the X8 Pro Max never truly disappears in your pocket. Initially, I was willing to forgive it because of the massive battery, but over time, the heft becomes noticeable during prolonged one-handed use.
The software is another area where the honeymoon period fades. While HyperOS itself is smooth, the abundance of pre-installed apps and occasional promotional notifications continue to remind you that this isn’t a clean Android experience.
The cameras remain good rather than great. The main sensor delivers reliable results, but the ultra-wide camera still feels average, and low-light photography doesn’t quite match the standards set by some rivals in this price segment.
Long-Term Verdict
Months later, the POCO X8 Pro Max remains one of the easiest phones to recommend for power users. The combination of a gigantic battery, excellent display, flagship-grade performance, and fast charging creates a package that feels remarkably complete for ₹42,999.
It isn’t the lightest phone, nor does it have the best cameras in its class. But if battery anxiety is your biggest smartphone problem, the POCO X8 Pro Max solves it better than almost anything else on the market. And after months of use, that’s still its biggest strength.
