Mercedes-Benz has introduced the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e in India. It is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid Mercedes-Maybach in the country. The luxury limousine combines Maybach’s focus on craftsmanship with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It also brings several updates to the latest Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, including a more distinctive exterior, a more refined cabin and new digital technology.
Exterior
The S 580e keeps the long proportions that have become a key part of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The Maybach treatment, however, gives it a more distinctive identity. The front features the brand’s signature grille with vertical slats, plus illuminated elements that make the car easier to spot at night. The car also gets an illuminated Maybach logo projection and illuminated door sills.
The latest S-Class updates have also brought changes to the lighting design. The S 580e gets the latest-generation DIGITAL LIGHT system, while the headlamps feature Maybach-specific detailing.
From the side, the extended proportions are especially noticeable. The long-wheelbase design gives rear passengers more space while creating the stretched silhouette expected from a flagship limousine. The car also gets Maybach-specific wheels and an illuminated Maybach badge on the D-pillar.
Interior
Inside, the S 580e puts most of its focus on the rear seats. The India-spec model is available only as a four-seater. Instead of a conventional rear bench, there are two individual Executive seats separated by a full-length Business Centre Console.
The rear seats are designed for long-distance comfort. They offer heating, ventilation and massage functions, along with extended leg support. The Rear Comfort Package Plus adds adaptive ambient lighting, rear wireless charging and rear MBUX controls. Folding tables and temperature-controlled cup holders are also part of the package.
The cabin also gets Maybach-specific materials. The India-spec car features Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather in a crystal white and silver-grey pearl combination. It pairs this with MANUFAKTUR piano lacquer trim and a crystal white Nappa leather roof liner. The seat backrests also receive dedicated MANUFAKTUR detailing.
Technology
The S 580e brings substantial technology to the cabin. It runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS. The front gets the MBUX Superscreen, which combines the central display with a dedicated front-passenger screen. The passenger display also features a privacy function.
The driver gets a 3D display, while augmented reality navigation and a head-up display provide additional information. The car also gets a Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound System with 31 speakers, eight exciters and 1,610 watts of output, and supports Dolby Atmos and sound personalisation.
Rear passengers can also use wireless headphones for the rear-seat entertainment system.
Performance
The S 580e uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. It produces a combined 585 hp and 750 Nm of torque. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The powertrain combines a combustion engine with a 160 hp electric motor. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The battery has a usable capacity of 22 kWh.
Electric Range
The S 580e can also operate in electric mode. It offers a WLTP-certified electric range of up to 98 km, while Mercedes-Benz claims this can translate to around 100 km of real-world driving with advanced recuperation. It can also reach up to 140 km/h while driving purely on electric power.
Drivers can choose between Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold modes. It also offers adjustable energy recuperation levels, including one-pedal driving.
Charging
The S 580e supports AC charging at up to 11 kW and DC charging at up to 60 kW. Mercedes-Benz will also provide a complimentary home charging solution with every car. Owners can access compatible public charging infrastructure through MB.CHARGE.
The plug-in hybrid setup gives owners more flexibility. Shorter daily journeys can be completed using electric power, while the petrol engine provides additional range for longer trips.
Ride and Handling
The S 580e uses cloud-based AIRMATIC air suspension. The system can use navigation data to anticipate road conditions and adjust the damping. This is designed to provide a smoother ride for both the driver and passengers.
Rear-axle steering is also standard and can be extended up to 10 degrees. This helps reduce the turning circle at lower speeds while improving stability at higher speeds. The car also uses a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Price and Availability
The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e 4MATIC is priced at ₹3.35 crore in India. Mercedes-Benz will offer only 30 units at launch, making it a limited offering for the Indian market.
With the S 580e, Mercedes-Benz is giving Maybach customers another way to experience its flagship limousine.
