Citroen Aircross X: More Than Just a Spacious SUV

In the compact SUV segment, “space” is one of those words that’s used so often that it’s almost lost its meaning. Every manufacturer promises generous interiors and practical cabins, but the real test isn’t how spacious a vehicle feels when you’re sitting inside it. It’s how well that space adapts to your everyday life.

That’s exactly what we wanted to find out with the Citroen Aircross X. Instead of quoting boot capacity figures or reading out dimensions from a brochure, we decided to put its practicality to the test with something everyone can relate to. A simple challenge: just how many cardboard boxes could we fit inside?

The guesses started conservatively. Twelve boxes seemed realistic. Twenty sounded overly ambitious. But as the loading began, it quickly became apparent that the Aircross X had more to offer than first impressions suggested. Twelve boxes disappeared into the cabin with surprising ease, and there was still plenty of room left.

More Than Just a Big Boot

The challenge became even more interesting once we started exploring the cabin’s versatility. Folding the rear seats immediately created more usable space, allowing additional boxes to slot in effortlessly. But the real surprise came when we realised the second-row seats could be removed entirely. That single feature transforms the Aircross X from a practical family SUV into something far more adaptable. With the seats out, the cabin opens up dramatically, making room for larger and bulkier cargo that many rivals simply wouldn’t accommodate. Before long, twenty boxes had gone in. Then twenty-one.

The experiment wasn’t really about breaking a record—it was about proving a point. The Aircross X isn’t just spacious; it’s genuinely versatile. Whether you’re carrying camping gear, photography equipment, luggage for a family holiday or making a furniture run, the ability to configure the cabin around your needs makes a tangible difference in everyday use.

    Comfort Beyond Practicality

Practicality is only one side of the story. The Aircross X also brings a healthy dose of comfort and convenience that makes daily driving more enjoyable. The ventilated front seats are particularly welcome in Indian summers, while the automatic climate control system with its 14-degree cooling capability quickly brings the cabin down to a comfortable temperature. Long highway journeys are made easier with cruise control, allowing the driver to settle into a relaxed rhythm without constantly modulating the throttle.

Complementing this is the smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Unlike some automated manual gearboxes that can feel jerky in traffic, the torque converter delivers seamless shifts, making city commutes and long-distance drives equally comfortable.

    Sized Right for Indian Roads

One of the Aircross X’s biggest strengths is that it manages to offer generous interior space without becoming intimidating to drive. Its proportions are well-suited to Indian conditions. It’s compact enough to thread through congested city streets, tackle tight parking spaces and negotiate narrow roads with confidence, yet spacious enough inside to comfortably accommodate passengers and their luggage on longer journeys. That balance is something many SUV buyers are actively looking for today, a vehicle that feels equally at home during the weekday commute as it does on a weekend road trip.

    Versatility Is the Real USP

The box challenge began as a fun experiment, but it ended up highlighting what makes the Citroen Aircross X stand out. Many SUVs can claim to have a large boot. Far fewer offer the flexibility of folding and completely removing the rear seats to create a cabin that adapts to different lifestyles. For growing families, that means extra room for holiday luggage and shopping. For professionals, it could mean carrying work equipment during the week and passengers over the weekend. For outdoor enthusiasts, it unlocks the freedom to pack larger gear without compromise. It’s this adaptability that gives the Aircross X a distinct personality. Rather than simply offering more litres of storage on paper, it delivers space that can be configured around real-world needs.

    Bottom Line

Sometimes, the most impressive feature isn’t found on a specification sheet. It’s discovered when you actually use the vehicle. Our challenge started with a simple question: could the Aircross X fit twenty boxes? The answer turned out to be twenty-one. More importantly, it demonstrated that the SUV’s biggest strength isn’t just its size. It’s how intelligently that space has been designed. Combine that with a comfortable cabin, thoughtful convenience features and a refined automatic powertrain, and the Citroen Aircross X presents itself as a well-rounded SUV that’s ready to adapt to whatever your day throws at it.
