UltraProlink Sonic Pro Dual Microphone Review: The Budget Backup That Became My Go-To

    Verdict

    8.5 Budget Brilliance

The UltraProlink Sonic Pro isn’t a replacement for premium wireless microphone systems from brands like DJI. But for ₹2,799, it offers impressive convenience, dependable battery life, genuinely useful noise reduction and a remarkably travel-friendly design. During one of my busiest months of the year, it quietly became the audio solution I reached for whenever I was shooting on a smartphone. If you're a content creator, journalist or social media manager looking for an affordable wireless microphone that simply gets the job done, the Sonic Pro is an easy recommendation, and arguably one of the best value-for-money accessories you can buy for mobile content creation today.

    The Good
    1. Excellent value
    2. Compact design
    3. Great battery life
    The Bad
    1. No camera support
    2. Slightly muddy audio

July was relentless. Between Exhibit and TopGear India, the calendar looked more like an airline schedule than an editorial one. Product launches, drive events and tech briefings had me hopping between cities almost every other day, while our in-house cameras and audio gear were constantly stretched thin. It reached a point where borrowing equipment became a daily ritual. So, I started looking for a simple, affordable wireless microphone setup that I could pair with my smartphone for quick shoots, Reels, interviews and on-the-go reporting.

That’s when I came across the UltraProlink Sonic Pro Dual Microphone. At ₹2,799, it almost sounded too good to be true. Of course, it isn’t a professional wireless system designed for mirrorless cameras, but for smartphone filmmaking, it promised all the essentials. After putting it through multiple hectic assignments, here’s how it fared.

    Design

The Sonic Pro’s biggest strength is how neatly everything has been packaged. The entire kit lives inside a compact, magnetic cylindrical charging case that’s small enough to disappear into a backpack pocket.

One end of the cylinder houses a Type-C charging port along with a small display that shows the battery percentage remaining in the case. Press the body slightly, and an internal tray slides out to reveal the two transmitters and the Type-C receiver.

The receiver plugs directly into your smartphone and even features its own Type-C passthrough port, allowing you to charge your phone while recording. Although one might seldom feel the need to use this feature, it’s nevertheless a thoughtful addition.

UltraProlink also includes a Lightning adapter for older iPhones, which is great for compatibility. Unfortunately, there’s no dedicated slot inside the case to lodge it. Moreover, it’s tiny enough to disappear into a camera bag forever if you’re not careful.

The transmitters themselves are refreshingly compact. Instead of traditional clips, they rely entirely on powerful built-in magnets to attach to your clothing. I was initially sceptical, but those magnets are impressively strong and held firmly throughout my shoots.

Do note that this microphone setup is only meant for smartphones and cannot connect to cameras, and I guess that will be too much to ask from a device priced so low anyways.

    Functionality

    Ultraprolink-Sonic-Pro-05

Using the Sonic Pro couldn’t be simpler. The receiver features two LED indicators that blink until the corresponding microphones are removed from their charging slots. Once the lights become steady, you’re ready to record.

Each microphone has a single multifunction button that controls everything. Noise reduction is enabled by default and, for the most part, does a commendable job of suppressing surrounding sounds without requiring any setup.

There’s also an Echo mode aimed at creators recording vocals or singing. It adds a noticeable layer of reverb to your voice. It’s not something I’d personally use for interviews or journalism, but it’s a fun addition if you’re creating musical content, which I tried and the results of which will never see the light of the day, as they never should.

    Sound Quality

    Ultraprolink-Sonic-Pro-04

For the price, the Sonic Pro performs admirably. Voice reproduction is clear enough for Reels, YouTube Shorts, interviews and outdoor pieces to camera. It delivers exactly the kind of audio quality most smartphone content creators would expect.

The noise reduction deserves particular praise. It effectively removes much of the surrounding ambience, making voices stand out nicely. The trade-off is a slight hint of muddiness in the vocal output.

Interestingly, switching noise reduction off introduced a faint hiss into recordings. As a result, I found myself leaving noise cancellation enabled almost all the time, where the recordings simply sounded cleaner.

Would I use it for a semi-professional short film? Probably not. But then again, that’s hardly the audience this microphone is targeting.

    Battery Life

Battery life has rarely been a concern with products like these because the charging case is almost always with you, and the Sonic Pro follows the same philosophy.

UltraProlink claims a combined runtime of up to 10 hours with the charging case. I couldn’t scientifically verify that figure because the microphone accompanied me during chaotic production days where tracking battery consumption wasn’t exactly a priority.

What I can say is this: after using the microphones for roughly three to four hours spread across three days of shoots, the charging case still displayed around 80 percent battery remaining. That gave me enough confidence to stop worrying about charging altogether and simply focus on getting the shot.
