Sennheiser Accentum Open True Wireless Earbuds Review

Sennheiser has expanded its Accentum lineup with the Accentum Open True Wireless earbuds, marking a notable shift toward open-ear designs. These earbuds prioritize situational awareness and all-day comfort over the isolating seal of traditional in-ear models. Unlike Sennheiser’s more sealed offerings like the Momentum series, the Accentum Open adopts a stem-style form factor, allowing ambient sounds to blend naturally with your music or calls. But is this the best open-ear option on the market? Let’s find out.

    Build & Design

The Sennheiser Accentum Open earbuds boast a compact and minimalist design that highlights portability and ease. Weighing just a few grams per bud, they feature a lightweight, ergonomic stem that rests gently in the ear without inserting into the canal, reducing fatigue during extended wear. This open-fit approach ensures breathability, making them suitable for warm environments or long sessions where traditional earbuds might cause discomfort or sweat buildup. The buds come in a sleek black finish, giving them a professional, understated look that integrates seamlessly with daily attire.

The charging case is equally pocket-friendly small enough to slip into jeans without bulging, with a matte texture that resists fingerprints. It uses a USB-C port for charging but lacks wireless charging, keeping things straightforward. IPX4 splash and sweat resistance adds durability for light workouts or rainy days, though they’re not fully rugged for intense sports. Touch controls on the stems are responsive for play/pause, track skipping, and volume adjustments, with auto-pause when removing a bud.

    Performance & Audio Quality

Performance-wise, the Accentum Open shines in delivering Sennheiser-tuned audio through 11mm dynamic drivers, supporting SBC and AAC codecs via Bluetooth 5.3. The connection is rock-solid, with multipoint pairing for two devices, enabling seamless switches between a phone and laptop. Call quality is impressive, thanks to dual beamforming microphones that filter background noise for clear voice transmission, even in moderately noisy settings.

Audio quality is good for its price, offering a spacious soundstage with excellent midrange clarity and detailed treble that brings vocals and instruments to life. Bass is present but not overpowering, surprising for an open design, providing enough low-end punch for casual listening without overwhelming the mix. It’s well-suited for podcasts, music, and media where natural integration with surroundings enhances the experience, like staying alert to traffic or conversations.

However, there’s no app connectivity, which lacks customization options like EQ presets or gesture remapping. This “essentials-only” philosophy means you’re stuck with the default tuning, adjustable only via your device’s settings. While this simplicity appeals to some, it might frustrate users wanting personalized sound. No ANC or transparency modes are included, as the open design naturally provides awareness, a pro for safety, but a con in very loud environments where audio can get drowned out.

    Battery

Battery life is a strong suit, with up to 6.5 hours of playback per charge and a total of 28 hours including the compact case. A quick 10-minute charge yields about 1.5 hours, ensuring minimal downtime. In real-world use, this holds up well for all-day listening, from morning commutes to evening calls, outperforming many open-ear rivals. Single-bud mode extends usability further, and the case’s LED indicators make monitoring levels easy.

    8.5 Verdict

The Sennheiser Accentum Open True Wireless earbuds excel as an affordable, comfortable entry into open-ear audio, blending Sennheiser's signature sound with practical features like strong battery life and reliable connectivity. They're perfect for users seeking awareness without compromise, but the absence of app support and advanced tweaks might deter audiophiles. At this price, they're a smart pick, potentially the best for casual, everyday scenarios. If you prioritize isolation or customization, look elsewhere; otherwise, these are a breath of fresh air.
