OPPO Reno 15 Pro Mini Review: Mini Marvel

The smartphone market is flooded with larger devices, but OPPO has taken a different approach with the Reno15 Pro Mini 5G. Launched recently, this compact powerhouse packs the same impressive hardware as its larger sibling, the Reno15 Pro, into a smaller frame, weighing just 187 grams. It’s not a stripped-down budget model pretending to be premium; instead, it offers the full experience in a more compact size. Priced starting at around ₹59,999 for the 12 GB + 256 GB variant in India, it aims to be a refreshing alternative to phablets. However, does reducing the phone’s size compromise the user experience, or has OPPO successfully mastered the art of making a compact device? I put all of these claims to the test over a week of daily use.

    DESIGN & BUILD

The Reno15 Pro Mini feels like jewellery that you can actually use. OPPO refers to the back as “one-piece sculpted glass” equipped with HoloFusion Technology, and the effect is truly mesmerizing. In my review unit, which is in Crystal Pink, the nano-engraved ribbons shift colours depending on the angle, creating a stunning visual detail that captures your attention every time you take the phone out of your pocket.

With a thickness of just 8 mm and weighing under 190g, it easily slips into any jeans pocket without causing a bulge and fits comfortably in one hand. The aerospace-grade aluminium frame provides just the right amount of grip, while the ultra-thin 1.6 mm bezels make the 6.32-inch display feel expansive. Both the front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and with a triple rating of IP66/IP68/IP69, the phone can easily withstand the Mumbai monsoons.

The in-display optical fingerprint sensor is quick and reliable, even with slightly damp hands. Additionally, the stereo speakers deliver surprisingly powerful sound for such a compact device. The only minor drawback is the camera bump; while it is stylish, it causes the phone to rock slightly when placed on a flat surface.

    PERFORMANCE

The device is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8450, a 4 nm chip also used in the larger Reno15 Pro. It features an all-big-core configuration with a peak 3.25 GHz Cortex-A725 cluster, a Mali-G720 MC7 GPU, and a robust NPU that OPPO has optimized with AI HyperBoost 2.0.

In everyday use, the phone feels remarkably responsive. Running on ColourOS 16 based on Android 16, it delivers a smooth experience courtesy of the Trinity Engine and Lag Killer features. Apps launch instantly, and with 12 GB of RAM, multitasking is effortless, allowing for over 20 tabs and background processes to remain active. Additionally, the 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate enhances the scrolling experience.

Gaming performance is surprisingly impressive for such a compact device. Games like BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile maintain frame rates of 90–120 fps at high settings, generating minimal heat. The silicon-carbon battery and vapour chamber keep temperatures below 42 °C even after 30 minutes of play. Genshin Impact runs smoothly at 60 fps on medium settings, with no frame drops.

On the software front, preferences may vary. ColourOS 16 includes useful AI features such as AI Translate for calls, AI Voice Scribe, Smart Sidebar, and Flux Home Screen. However, it comes with several pre-installed apps and folders promoting “Hot Games.”

    CAMERA

The Reno15 Pro Mini truly lives up to its title of “Portrait Vlog Master.” It boasts a triple rear camera setup that includes a 200 MP Samsung HP5 main sensor (f/1.8, with optical image stabilization), a 50 MP ultra-wide camera with a 116° field of view, and a 50 MP telephoto camera (JN5 sensor, also with optical image stabilization). On the front, there’s a 50 MP ultra-wide selfie camera featuring a 100° field of view.

The daylight shots taken with this phone are stunning. The 200 MP high-resolution mode captures incredible detail; you can crop in 4x and still see individual threads on clothing. The colours are vibrant yet natural, thanks to India-tuned PureTone processing, which ensures skin tones look lifelike without the orange cast that some other brands apply.

Low-light performance is surprisingly strong for a compact phone. With AI Flash Photography 2.0 and night mode, it produces clean shots with minimal noise, even at ISO 12,800. The ultra-wide camera performs decently, too, though it softens slightly at the edges compared to the main sensor.

Portrait photography is where this device shines. The 3.5x telephoto lens (85 mm equivalent) provides natural compression and beautiful bokeh effects. AI Portrait Glow intelligently selects lighting styles—such as studio, rim, or natural—for flawless results. Selfies are enhanced by the wide-angle lens, making it perfect for group shots without the hassle of stretching out a selfie stick.

Video capabilities are equally impressive, offering 4K at 60 fps HDR across all lenses with seamless switching. Gyro-EIS and OIS ensure that the footage remains steady, even while walking. Additionally, Dual-View and Video Editing 2.0 allow you to create professional-looking vlogs straight from the phone. The only real limitation is the absence of 8K recording, but with such great 4K quality, you likely won’t miss it.

    BATTERY

Despite its compact design, OPPO has integrated a 6200 mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is larger than what many flagship phones offer, even if they are twice the size. In real-world use, the battery life is impressive, providing 7 to 8 hours of screen-on time with a mix of 5G activities such as Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, and occasional BGMI gaming sessions. On lighter usage days, it can last nearly two full days.

The phone comes with an 80W SUPERVOOC charger that fully charges the battery from 1% to 100% in just 53 minutes. A quick 10-minute charge adds enough battery life for over 4 hours of video playback or a complete gaming session. Additionally, reverse wired charging is available for emergencies. The heat management is exceptional, as the phone hardly warms up during fast charging.

    VERDICT

The OPPO Reno15 Pro Mini is the compact phone many have been waiting for, offering flagship features like excellent cameras, all-day battery life, a bright 120 Hz OLED display, and a premium build without the bulk. While the Dimensity 8450 chip isn’t the fastest, and ColourOS has some bloat, these are minor trade-offs for users who value comfort and usability. Priced at ₹59,999, it competes with the OnePlus 13s and Vivo X200 FE, excelling in ergonomics and camera versatility while sacrificing some raw power. Ideal for content creators and those who dislike bulky phones, the Reno15 Pro Mini is a worthy compact flagship.
