OnePlus has launched a new affordable smartphone in the Nord series. Priced under ₹40,000 for the base 8GB/256GB variant, it brings flagship-level specs such as a massive 9,000mAh battery, a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, and a 165Hz AMOLED display to the mid-budget segment. But is this the best mid-budget smartphone right now? The timing feels ironic, at a moment when rumours are swirling about OnePlus planning to exit or scale back global markets (following the India CEO’s exit and restructuring reports). Despite the uncertainty surrounding the brand’s future, the Nord 6 arrives as a bold statement, a “never settle” device that could redefine value in 2026.
Build & Display
The OnePlus Nord 6 weighs 217g, which makes it heavy. However, it features a large 9,000 mAh battery, nearly double the capacity of many mid-range phones. Despite a big battery, the silicon-carbon cell technology keeps the device’s thickness reasonable at just 8.5mm. It doesn’t feel overly heavy in hand, thanks to lightweight materials and an optimized design. The frame and back are made of polycarbonate with a metallic-like finish, which surprisingly resists fingerprints well.

Build quality is a highlight, with IP68/IP69K ratings (dust-tight and resistant to high-pressure and hot-water jets) and MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification for drops, vibration, and extreme conditions. It even includes an IR blaster for controlling appliances. The front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, giving it flagship durability.
The display steals the show with a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED with a 165Hz refresh rate, 3840Hz PWM dimming, HDR10+ support, 800 nits typical/1800 nits peak brightness, and ultra-HDR capabilities. It’s the same panel tech seen on the OnePlus 15 flagship, ultra-smooth for scrolling and gaming, vibrant colours, deep blacks, and excellent outdoor visibility. I have been binge-watching and gaming for the last two weeks, and it’s one of the best in the sub-₹40k segment. The under-display optical fingerprint scanner is fast and reliable.
Performance
Under the hood, the Nord 6 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (4nm process), an octa-core beast with a prime Cortex-X4 core at 3.21GHz, paired with Adreno 825 GPU. It comes with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256/512GB UFS 4.1 storage (no microSD slot). We ran the AnTuTu benchmark, and the scores exceeded 2.5 million, a flagship-level score for a mid-ranger.
In real-world usage, this device excels in multitasking, app launches, and handling heavy workloads effortlessly. It particularly shines in gaming, with titles like BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile running at consistently high frame rates, thanks to the 165Hz display. OnePlus claims that users can enjoy an hour of peak gaming without thermal throttling, which is a first for this segment.
OxygenOS 16, based on Android 16, offers a clean user experience, though it comes with a few preinstalled apps that can be easily uninstalled. Additionally, OnePlus has committed to providing four major OS updates and six years of security patches. Users will not experience any lag or stutters, even when dozens of apps are open in the background.
Camera

The cameras on the Nord 6 may not be its most standout feature, but they perform well for the price. The rear dual-camera system includes a 50MP main sensor that captures sharp, detailed images with natural color reproduction and good dynamic range during the day. It is complemented by an 8MP ultra-wide lens (with a 112° field of view) that is useful for landscapes and group photos. Additionally, there is a color-spectrum sensor and an LED flash.
The 32MP front selfie camera (f/2.4) excels in handling portraits with its autofocus capability and supports video recording in 4K at 60 frames per second. It takes photos with natural tones, avoiding excessive sharpening or heavy processing which is a refreshing change from some earlier Nord models that had warmer tones. While its low-light performance is solid thanks to optical image stabilization (OIS), it may not match the capabilities of high-end flagships. Portraits have pleasing bokeh, and the ultra-wide lens retains decent detail. Overall, while it may not be a powerhouse for photography, it reliably delivers great results for social media, casual snapshots, and vlogging, exceeding expectations for a mid-range smartphone.
Battery
The device comes equipped with a massive 9,000mAh battery. This silicon-carbon (Si/C) cell, featuring a 15% silicon anode, provides a higher energy density, allowing for substantial capacity without excessive bulk. OnePlus claims that users can get up to 2.5+ days of normal usage or 26.9 hours of YouTube playback. In my experience, it easily handles heavy days filled with gaming, streaming, and social media, leaving plenty of battery life remaining.
Charging is managed through 80W SUPERVOOC wired technology, which can fully charge the device in about 70 minutes. It also supports UFCS, PPS, and 27W reverse wired charging. The bypass charging mode ensures that the device stays cool during intense 4K video playback or gaming sessions by routing power directly, making it practical and efficient. This eliminates range anxiety, making it ideal for travelers, gamers, or anyone who dislikes recharging during the day.
Verdict
The OnePlus Nord 6 is an impressive mid-budget smartphone for 2026, offering blazing performance, a stunning display, and excellent battery life with a massive 9,000 mAh cell. It stands out with features like a 165Hz refresh rate and a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, making it a top choice for gamers and heavy users. While its low-light camera performance could improve, and its weight may be a concern for some, it stands out in the market, especially for those in India. The Nord 6 is a solid choice for those valuing speed, endurance, and durability over camera quality, embodying OnePlus’s “Never Settle” philosophy. Highly recommended.
