    PROS 👍

    CONS 👎

    • Average cameras
    • Keyboard lacks trackpad

The Redmi Pad Pro 5G is Xiaomi’s latest addition to the tablet market, positioning itself as a mid-range option that seeks to balance affordability with performance. Xiaomi is known for delivering value-for-money products and has built a reputation in the smartphone market. It’s clear that they’re trying to replicate that success in the tablet arena. Will Xiaomi dominate the tablet segment just like they did with the smartphone? Let’s find out.

Here's an in-depth review of Xiaomi Redmi Pad Pro 5G tablet with Keyboard and Pen

    Build & Display

When you first unbox the Redmi Pad Pro 5G, the first thing that strikes you is its build quality. It sports a sleek, aluminum alloy body that feels premium to the touch, with a matte finish that resists fingerprints well. At just 7.5mm thick and weighing 566 grams, it’s relatively thin and lightweight, making it comfortable to hold for extended periods, whether you’re watching videos, reading, or browsing the web. The flat sides does give a temporary dent to the palm when holding it longer, but this kind of design is used by most of the brands these days.

The 12.1-inch display is one of the standout features of the Redmi Pad Pro 5G. It boasts a 2.5K resolution (2560 x 1600 pixels) with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring that everything from scrolling through web pages to gaming feels smooth and responsive. The display also supports Dolby vision, offering a vibrant color palette with deep blacks and bright whites, making it a joy to watch movies and TV shows. The high pixel density ensures that text is sharp and images are crisp, contributing to an overall immersive viewing experience.

Moreover, the display’s brightness is rated at 600 nits, which is sufficient for most indoor lighting conditions and even in some outdoor scenarios, although direct sunlight may still pose a challenge. The screen-to-body ratio is impressive, with minimal bezels on all the sides gives a clean look.

    Performance

Under the hood, the Redmi Pad Pro 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, a chip that strikes an excellent balance between performance and efficiency. Paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, this tablet was easily able to handle multitasking, gaming, and productivity tasks. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is a proven performer, offering enough horsepower to keep up with demanding applications without compromising on battery life.

In real-world usage, the tablet handles day-to-day tasks effortlessly. Apps launch quickly, and switching between them is seamless, thanks to the ample RAM and the well-optimized Xiaomi HyperOS software that runs on top of Android 14. The tablet’s 5G capabilities ensure that you stay connected with lightning-fast internet speeds, provided you are in an area with good coverage. This makes streaming high-definition content, video conferencing, and downloading large files a breeze.

Gaming on the Redmi Pad Pro 5G is also a pleasure. The Adreno 710 GPU, coupled with the high refresh rate display, ensures that games like “PUBG Mobile” and “Asphalt Legends Unite” run smoothly at high settings. Thermal management is another area where the Redmi Pad Pro 5G impresses. Even after prolonged gaming sessions, the tablet remains cool to the touch, thanks to its efficient cooling system.

We conducted a raw benchmark test by installing Geekbench 6 and running both CPU and GPU tests. The tablet’s performance in the CPU test was quite impressive, with a single-core score of 1033 and a multi-core score of 3008. In the GPU test, it achieved a score of 1776.

The internal storage options are also impressive, it comes with either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. This helped the tablet to have overall snappy performance. For those who need more space, the lack of expandable storage might be a downside, but with cloud storage services becoming more common, this is less of an issue than it might have been a few years ago.

The Redmi Pad Pro 5G is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear and front camera. While it doesn’t capture high-quality pictures, it’s sufficient for taking photos of documents or casual shots. The front camera is best used for video calls, although it can also take decent selfies if needed.

    Battery Life

Battery life is another area where the Redmi Pad Pro 5G shines. It houses a massive 10,000mAh battery. We tested the usage, and the tablet consistently provided around 10-11 hours of screen-on time with a mix of browsing, video streaming, and light gaming.

The inclusion of 33W fast charger allowed tablet to go from 0 to 100% in just about 120 minutes. This is especially useful if you’re on the go and need a quick top-up. Xiaomi also provides a 33W charger in the box, which is a welcome inclusion in a time when many manufacturers are omitting chargers from their packaging.

After testing the battery drain, we found that watching a full 2-hour movie at maximum brightness with the speaker on only drained the battery by 19%.

    Keyboard Case

The optional keyboard case for the Redmi Pad Pro 5G is a slim and well-designed accessory that enhances its productivity features. It attaches to the tablet like a case and can be folded to serve as a kickstand for various tasks such as typing, drafting documents, and watching videos. Despite its compact size, the keyboard offers a surprisingly comfortable typing experience with responsive keys and a well-spaced layout. However, users accustomed to full-sized keyboards may find it slightly smaller. One drawback is that there is no trackpad, which takes away from the laptop-like vibe. In addition, the durable case protects the tablet from damage while maintaining access to all ports and buttons.

    Stylus

The Xiaomi Redmi Smart Pen for the Redmi Pad Pro 5G has a lightweight and ergonomic design that feels like a real pen, making it comfortable for extended use. It offers 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, allowing for precise control over line thickness and opacity. This makes it perfect for drawing, sketching, and detailed work in creative apps. Additionally, it features a palm rejection feature to prevent interference from resting hands. However, it lacks a dedicated storage slot in the tablet.

    Verdict

The Redmi Pad Pro 5G is a strong contender in the mid-range tablet market. Its combination of a high-quality display, robust build, solid performance, and long battery life makes it an excellent choice for those looking for a tablet that can do it all without breaking the bank. The inclusion of 5G connectivity future-proofs the device, ensuring that it remains relevant as mobile networks continue to evolve. While it may not offer the absolute top-tier performance of flagship devices like the Apple iPad, OnePlus Pad 2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, the Redmi Pad Pro 5G provides more than enough power for the average user. Whether you’re a student needing a device for note-taking and research, a professional looking for a portable productivity tool, or a casual user who wants a reliable device for entertainment, this tablet has something to offer.
