Sony is set to release the PlayStation 5 Pro on November 7th, and buyers will have a healthy lineup of compatible games to dive into from day one. As many as 50 previously released games will play as enhanced versions of themselves on this new, more powerful console. How much more powerful, you ask? There’s an answer for that as well.
Digital Foundry has already unboxed the machine and shared the specs that are stated on the included manual of their review unit. At the heart of the PS5 Pro is the same AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU with an 8-core/16-thread setup. However, there’s a big improvement in the GPU department, with an RDNA-based graphics engine producing 16.7TF compute performance being at the helm. In comparison, the base PS5 has a compute performance of 10.23TF.
Gamers who will opt for the PS5 Pro, or its nostalgia-evoking retro version, can expect huge graphical enhancements in compatible games. Advanced ray tracing and support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution will be added to these games. This AI-driven upscaling technology uses machine learning to provide super-sharp image clarity by adding extraordinary detail.
The list of games that will be able to take advantage of the PS5 Pro’s advanced hardware on day one includes some of the most in-demand titles out there. Insomniac’s trio of Spider-Man games makes the list, and so do the duos of Horizon and The Last of Us games.
That said, there are some notable absentees as well. Elden Ring hasn’t made the cut, along with Sony’s first-party favourites like Returnal and Gran Turismo 7. Even last year’s Final Fantasy XVI has missed the bus. But it’s not like they won’t get the enhancements at all. All of these games have been confirmed to receive the PS5 Pro upgrade in the future.
