How to Transfer WhatsApp Chats and Media from iPhone to Android?

Switching phones can feel overwhelming, especially if you don’t want to lose your years of WhatsApp conversations, media, and group history. Fortunately, WhatsApp offers a fairly straightforward way to move your data from an iPhone to an Android smartphone using a cable connection.

If you’re ready to migrate your WhatsApp account from iOS to Android, here’s everything you need to know.

    What Will Be Transferred?

Once you begin the process, most of your WhatsApp data will move to your new Android phone. This includes your chat history, all personal and group conversations, profile photo, account info, and even communities and channel updates.

Media files like photos, videos, and voice notes also make the jump, along with your app settings.

    What Won’t Transfer?

While the process covers most essentials, some things won’t be carried over. Your call history, display name, WhatsApp status updates, and any media received through channels won’t be part of the transfer.

    Things to Prepare Before Starting

Before initiating the transfer, make sure you’re using a compatible setup. Your Android phone should be running Android 12 or above. If it’s a Samsung device, it needs to have the latest version of the Smart Switch app installed.

You must either use a brand-new Android phone or reset your current one to factory settings. If WhatsApp is already installed, uninstall it and reinstall it after clearing its data.

Also, ensure that both your iPhone and Android phone have the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store and Google Play Store, respectively. Most importantly, use the same mobile number on both devices for a successful transfer.

Step-by-Step: Moving WhatsApp from iPhone to Android Using a Cable

    1. Begin by powering on your new or reset Android phone. Connect it to Wi-Fi and proceed with the standard setup process until you reach the data copy screen.
    2. Use a compatible USB-C to Lightning cable (or USB-C to USB-C, depending on your iPhone model) to connect your iPhone to the Android device. Your iPhone will prompt you to trust the connected device. Tap on “Trust” and enter your passcode to continue.
    3. When your Android phone displays the option to copy data, tap “Next.” A list of data types such as contacts and apps will appear. From there, locate WhatsApp, tap the arrow beside it, and select “Install.”
    4. The Android phone will now ask if you’d like to transfer WhatsApp chat data from the iPhone. Select “Start” to initiate the process.
    5. WhatsApp will prepare the data on your iPhone and begin the transfer. The time it takes will depend on the size of your chat history and media.
    6. Once complete, open WhatsApp on the Android phone. Sign in using the same phone number you used on your iPhone. When prompted, tap “Restore” to bring your chats and media into view.

    Important Note

Keep in mind, this method only works when setting up a new Android device or after resetting it to factory defaults. You won’t be able to use this method on an already configured Android phone.

    Final Thoughts

Transferring WhatsApp data from iOS to Android is now easier than ever, provided you meet the setup requirements. With the right cable, compatible devices, and a few simple steps, you can seamlessly continue your chats on a new platform without losing important memories or messages.
