The mission, dubbed Starlink 12-6, took flight at 12:39 a.m. EST on Tuesday, December 31, from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This marked the company’s 132nd and final Falcon 9 launch of the year, underscoring its relentless drive to connect the world with accessible internet.
Mission Highlights
The Falcon 9 rocket carried 21 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit, with 13 equipped with direct-to-cell capabilities designed to enhance connectivity in remote and underserved regions. Originally slated for December 30, the launch faced a brief delay to ensure seamless preparations.
The mission’s booster, Falcon 9’s B1078, achieved its 16th flight, showcasing SpaceX’s mastery of reusability. This workhorse had previously supported missions like Crew-6, USSF-124, and 11 other Starlink launches. After completing its task, the booster made a flawless landing on the droneship Just Read the Instructions, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. This marked the 104th successful landing for this particular vessel and SpaceX’s 390th booster recovery overall.
