Lamborghini SC20: Race the roads, roofless!

Lamborghini Squadra Corse presents the SC20, a unique specimen of an open-top track car type-approved for road use. The SC20 is the second one-off engineered by the motorsport department and designed by Centro Stile in Sant’Agata Bolognese: the car was created following the customer’s wishes, who was involved in the project from the very first drawings by Lamborghini’s designers.

The common goal was to build a unique vehicle, extreme in its design and performance, and able to combine aerodynamic solutions taken from racing Lamborghinis incorporating unprecedented lines and exclusive details. “Two years after the SC18 Alston, the SC20 was a new, intriguing challenge. The chief sources of inspiration were the Diablo VT Roadster, Aventador J, Veneno Roadster and Concept S, and the result is a dramatic combination of creativity and racing attitude,” commented Mitja Borkert, Head of Design Lamborghini Centro Stile.

The carbon fibre body was polished and slicked down by hand by the Lamborghini aerodynamic engineers to deliver optimal airflow for both performance and the cockpit’s occupants, ensuring comfortable open-air driving even at high speeds. Two fins frame the pronounced front splitter, and the air intakes on the front hood are inspired by those of the Huracán GT3 EVO, while the sculpted body sides reflect the solutions adopted on the Essenza SCV12. The muscular rear is topped by a large carbon fibre wing that can be set in three different positions: Low, Medium and High Load.

The SC20 features exclusive details starting from the body colours on a Bianco Fu (white) base, created for the customer, on which the Blu Cepheus (blue) livery stands out. The same shade is found in the interior, alternating with Nero Cosmus (black) and Bianco Leda (white). The most significant element of the passenger compartment is the visible carbon fibre used for the dashboard cover, rear wall, door panels, centre console and steering wheel trim, in addition to the monocoque. ‘

Carbon fibre is also used for the shells of the seats upholstered in Alcantara and leather. The door handles, on the other hand, are machined from solid aluminium. Lastly, the air vents are created using 3D printing technology at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory.

Maurizio Reggiani, Chief Technical Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, stated, “The SC20 is a combination of sophisticated engineering, Italian craftsmanship, sportiness and advanced design. It is also an example of applying our V12 engine and carbon fibre to a radical open-top vehicle that unmistakably carries the Lamborghini DNA.”

Its engine is based on Lamborghini’s flagship V12: the 6,498 cc, naturally aspirated twelve-cylinder that delivers 760 bhp at 8,500 rpm and develops 720 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. It is managed through the optimized seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) gearbox. The power is discharged to the ground by the four-wheel-drive system with central electronic differential, and the Pirelli PZero Corsa tires are mounted on single-nut aluminium rims, 20 inches in front and 21 inches at the rear.

Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, commented, “The SC20 is one more technical and styling exercise that associates Squadra Corse experience with Lamborghini design, masterfully interpreted by our Centro Stile based on the customer’s wishes, which was the focus of the project during the entire vehicle development and construction process.”

Lamborghini hits the 10th ton!

Italian supercar manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini has set yet another benchmark in the automobile industry. In nine years, the company’s Sant’Agata Bolognese factory has produced 10,000 Aventadors. The car with chassis number 10,000 is an Aventador SVJ Roadster in Grigio Acheso (grey) color with Rosso Mimir (red) livery and Ad Personam interior in Rosso Alala (red) and black. The car is destined for the Thai market.

Among its long list of features and technological marvels, its highlight is its “single shell” carbon fiber monocoque produced in the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory. It combines the cockpit, floor, and roof of the car in a single structure, ensuring extremely high structural rigidity and thus the maximum performance in terms of dynamic behavior and passive safety. How can we forget the iconic upward-opening doors, similar to those of the legendary Countach and the V12 models that followed it?

A new high-performance V12 engine was developed for the Aventador LP 700-4: with 700 HP (515 kW) of power at 8,250 rpm, it set a new benchmark in the world of super sports cars at the time of its introduction, enabling exceptional acceleration of 2.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed of 350 km/h.

This mammoth engine is mated to an ISR robotized transmission that guarantees thrilling ultra-fast shifts, while the push-rod suspension system offers driving precision comparable to that of racing cars.

The Aventador range debuted in 2011 in the coupé version as Aventador LP 700-4. Thanks to the new technological solutions introduced, it immediately became a new point of reference in the world of super sports cars.

In 2019, a one-off Aventador S by Skyler Grey was unveiled, a symbol of the fusion of two concepts of art. On one hand, there is Lamborghini’s automotive art, where the unique design of the forms, always characterized by taut lines, three-dimensional volumes, geometries, and stylistic elements of the past, is joined with pioneering technological solutions. On the other hand, Skyler Grey used the main techniques of street art – airbrushing, spray guns, rollers, and stencils – to personalize the car body in his typical Pop style in orange and yellow. The car was painted in three weeks in Lamborghini’s new paint shop. Despite the high level of complexity of the work, the artist, with the support of the team, brought to life the first street-legal work of art on four wheels.

The future of hybrid supercars, now with an open-top.

Supercar manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini seems to be pushing its own boundaries. The Italian carmaker has launched the Lamborghini Sián Roadster: a limited edition, open-top hybrid supercar. It is engineered around Lamborghini’s iconic V12 engine, with unique hybrid technologies.

The roofless design of the Sián Roadster puts an exclusive group of drivers in one of the most spectacular cockpits ever: always open to the sky; resonating with the inimitable V12 sound from the most powerful Lamborghini engine to date; and experiencing extraordinary performance while reveling in the Sián Roadster’s role in Lamborghini’s route to future hybridization.

Reminiscing the iconic periscopio line inspired by the first Countach, the Lamborghini Sián Roadster offers an unmatched aerial view. It is further enhanced by the lines running diagonally from the cockpit to the rear. These also culminate in the aerodynamic airstreamers behind driver and passenger. The Sián’s sculpted contours and characteristic aero wings give the Sián Roadster an unmistakable profile. The car has a very low front with integrated carbon fiber splitter, that houses the iconic Lamborghini Y-shape headlights.

Sticking to its traditional pure and uncluttered Sián design, Lamborghini has directed the  airflow in Sian through the front splitters and through the front bonnet, through the side air intakes and outlets and over the rear spoiler, with no loss of aerodynamic efficiency from the roadster’s roofless design.Active cooling vanes on the rear use unique materials-science technology patented by Lamborghini and operation of the vanes is triggered by the reaction of smart-material elements to the temperature generated by the exhaust system, causing them to rotate and providing an elegant and lightweight cooling solution.

The extreme and strong rear of the car incorporates Lamborghini’s signature hexagon design, including six hexagonal tail lights inspired by the Countach. The rear wing is integrated within the profile and extends out only during the driving to enhance the performance.

The low, powerful chassis houses the company’s next-generation V12 power plant. ‘Sián’ in local Bolognese dialect, meaning ‘flash’ or ‘lightening’, denotes the Sián Roadster’s electrification as part of the future hybrid strategy, while maintaining the extraordinary emotion and dynamic performance inherent in naturally aspirated Lamborghini super sports cars.

The Sián Roadster combines the V12 engine with a new powertrain, adding a 48-volt e-motor, delivering 34 hp. It is incorporated into the gearbox to provide immediate response and improved performance. The e-motor also supports low-speed maneuvers such as reversing and parking with electric power.

Lamborghini has equipped the Sian with an innovative supercapacitor application. The company claims it to be a world-first technology storing ten times the power of a lithium-ion battery. It is located in the bulkhead between cockpit and engine and ensures perfect weight distribution. The electric system with the supercapacitor and e-motor weighs only 34 kg, thus delivering a remarkable weight-to-power ratio of 1 kg/hp. Symmetric power flow ensures the same efficiency in both charging and discharging cycles: the most lightweight and efficient hybrid solution.

This advanced technology combines with the V12 engine, which incorporates titanium intake valves and is uprated to 785 hp (577 kW) at 8,500 rpm. Combined with the additional 34 hp from the hybrid system, the Sián Roadster delivers a total of 819 hp (602 kW). The supercar accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of over 350 km/h.

The Lamborghini Sián Roadster incorporates a highly sophisticated regenerative braking system, especially developed by Lamborghini. The symmetric behavior of the supercapacitor fully charges the Sián’s energy storage system every time the vehicle brakes. The energy stored is an instantly-available power boost, allowing the driver to draw immediately on increased torque when accelerating away, up to 130 km/h.

When the e-motor automatically disconnects, it improves the elasticity maneuvers and makes it more than 10 percent faster than a car without this system. The innovative system also delivers instant acceleration in low gears, with improved traction force provided by the combination of V12 engine and hybrid system.

The Lamborghini Sián Roadster benefits from a heightened level of driving comfort facilitated by the hybrid system alongside dynamic handling and performance. The movement felt during deceleration and missing torque caused by a traditional combustion engine, is eliminated by the torque upshift fill provided by the hybrid’s e-motor. Hence the driver will feel only the backward thrust of acceleration minus the uncomfortable jerking movements.

The Sián Roadster makes its debut in Blu Uranus, especially selected by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile, which together with the Ad Personam department works with every Sián client to entirely personalize the color and finish of their Roadster.  Encapsulating the blue of the sky and the green of the fields, evoking the freedom and driving elation delivered by the open top Sián Roadster’s performance, the car is finished with Oro Electrum wheels: the color chosen by Lamborghini to signify electrification. The complementary interior is an elegant combination of white with Blu Glauco detailing and aluminum elements in Oro Electrum: new-design air vents produced via 3D printing allows customization with a client’s initials.

Lamborghini surfing the waves? That’s what the Tecnomar 63 is about!

If you are the proud owner of a Lamborghini, there are probably very less things you could wish for. However, if you have felt like riding your Italian stallion across the ocean, I have good news for you. The Italian luxury carmaker has recently collaborated with The Italian Sea Group to present the worldwide premiere of ‘Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63’, the Tecnomar fleet’s new motor yacht available in a limited edition in reference to Lamborghini’s 1963 foundation.

The motor yacht sticks to the foundation of Lamborghini and offers performance, driving pleasure, attention to quality and details. This motor yacht project, developed by The Italian Sea Group, started with several collaborative sessions with the contribution of Lamborghini’s Centro Stile and inspiration from the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37: the hybrid super sports car incorporating benchmarking new supercapacitor and materials science technologies, that anticipates the future with an unmistakable design and completely customizable colour and details.

Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said: ”This yacht represents the significance of creating a valuable partnership, at its best: our co-operation allows the essence of both organisations’ style and expertise to be transferred to different worlds, sharing in their diversity to interpret and add value to the final product in a new environment. If I had to imagine a Lamborghini on water, this would be my vision. I’m delighted to celebrate this successful collaboration.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group said, “We announced this partnership in May, and today we present Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63, a motor yacht which will became as futuristic an icon as the car she is inspired by,”

Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is not just an exercise in style and design; it represents the vanguard in luxury speed boats. Inspired by Lamborghini super sports cars’ performance, the most significant innovative features at the heart of the concept are speed and the dynamism of lightweight engineering.

Lamborghini has equipped the Tecnomar with two MAN V12 engines that pump out a massive 2000 BHP! This propels the motor yacht to 60 knots, making it the fastest of the Tecnomar fleet. Lamborghini has also generously used carbon fibre in the motor yacht. It puts this motor yacht firmly in the ultra-lightweight boat classification, with its 63 feet length weighing in at just 24 tons.

The exterior design is characterized by a sporty silhouette, giving it a futuristic look but sticking to its nautical appearance. The hull and the superstructure are created from a high-performance shell, developed by naval engineers specializing in hydrodynamic sciences.

The hard top is inspired by Lamborghini roadsters: providing sun and wind protection while guaranteeing an outstanding aerodynamic performance. The bow lights are an homage to the Lamborghini concept car Terzo Millennio and to the Sián FKP 37, both distinctive for their Y-shaped front lights.

The interiors of Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 borrow Lamborghini’s iconic clean lines, hexagon shapes, Y-motif and materials and are clearly incorporated into the design, together with the fully customizable colours and materials in the manner of Lamborghini’s Ad Personam programme. Clients can choose from extensive exterior colours and livery options, while the interior is offered in two versions choosing from an extensive combination of materials.

The motor yacht’s instrument panel interprets the car cockpit in a nautical style, completely integrating all navigation and control systems. As in Lamborghini super sports cars, details are finished in carbon fibre, with Lamborghini’s Carbon Skin used in the sports seats and on the helm, styled as the super sports car’s steering wheel. The unmistakable start/stop button, (two, one for each engine) are exactly the same used to start a Lamborghini engine.

The first boat will be available at the beginning of 2021 and selected owners around the world will own not only the fastest Tecnomar motor yacht in the fleet, but a Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 masterpiece. Lamborghini seems to be adamant on pushing the limits of performance, as it recently also launched the Squadra Corse SCV12, a thoroughbred racing machine.
