Amazon India Brings Comfort to the Maha Kumbh Mela with Upcycled Beds

In a bid to enhance the experience of millions of devotees attending the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, Amazon India has introduced a thoughtful and innovative initiative. The company is tackling one of the biggest challenges faced by attendees — finding a comfortable place to rest — by upcycling its iconic cardboard packaging into portable beds.

Held every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Over a 45-day period in January and February, millions of pilgrims converge for spiritual cleansing and devotion. Recognizing the scale and significance of the event, Amazon India has partnered with Ogilvy and a team of expert fabricators to create durable, eco-friendly beds designed for comfort and utility. These upcycled beds will be available free of cost to attendees, ensuring accessibility for all.

“At Amazon India, innovation is at the heart of our mission to positively impact the communities we serve. Our association with the Maha Kumbh Mela emanates from this commitment. We strive to bring convenience, comfort and care to our customers every day through our iconic Amazon boxes, recognized by millions as a symbol of reliable service. By reimagining these boxes as beds, we saw an opportunity to address a real need for the event's attendees. It’s not just about thinking outside the box – it’s about transforming the box itself to make a tangible difference,” said Pragya Sharma, Director of Marketing at Amazon India

Amazon has collaborated closely with the event authorities to identify strategic locations within the festival grounds where these beds can provide the most relief. Key areas include the lost and found centre, where individuals in distress often gather, as well as police stations and festival hospitals. A portion of the beds will also be made available for general public use, addressing the diverse needs of the attendees.

Safety and durability are at the core of this initiative. The beds have been rigorously tested to withstand the unique environmental conditions of the Kumbh Mela, ensuring they remain sturdy and reliable throughout the event. This project is a testament to Amazon India’s commitment to sustainability and community welfare.

With this thoughtful initiative, Amazon is not only providing much-needed comfort but also setting a benchmark for innovative and sustainable solutions at large-scale events. The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela attendees can look forward to resting easily, thanks to Amazon’s upcycled beds.
