ChatGPT Go Now Free in India for One Year — Here’s How to Get It

OpenAI has made its ChatGPT Go plan free for all Indian users for an entire year, marking a major push to expand its footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets. Starting November 4, users in India can sign up and unlock premium ChatGPT features all at zero cost.

    OpenAI’s Big India Move

OpenAI announced that the ChatGPT Go plan, previously priced at ₹399 per month, will be available free for 12 months to anyone in India who signs up during a limited-time offer. The company says this initiative celebrates its first-ever DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, recognizing India’s “enthusiasm and creativity” in adopting AI.

India has emerged as OpenAI’s second-largest market globally, with paid subscriptions reportedly doubling within a month of ChatGPT Go’s launch in August 2025. The offer is expected to further accelerate AI adoption among students, professionals, and creators nationwide.

    What Is ChatGPT Go?

ChatGPT Go was introduced as an affordable alternative to OpenAI’s premium plans, giving users access to enhanced AI features without the higher price tag. The Go plan offers several advanced tools, including:

    • Higher chat limits for longer conversations
    • More daily image generations powered by DALL·E
    • Larger file uploads for document analysis and reports
    • Improved memory capabilities that let ChatGPT recall user preferences and context

All these features run on OpenAI’s GPT-5 model, making it one of the most powerful versions currently available for public use.

How to Activate the Free ChatGPT Go Plan in India

Getting your free ChatGPT Go subscription is simple. Here’s how to activate it:

    1. Visit the ChatGPT website or open the ChatGPT app.
    2. Sign in with your existing account or create a new one.
    3. Tap your profile icon and select “Upgrade your plan.”
    4. Choose ChatGPT Go from the available options.
    5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation.

Once done, the ChatGPT Go plan will be automatically added to your account unlocking premium features instantly.

Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will also receive an extra free year of access as part of this promotional offer.

Why India Is Central to OpenAI’s Expansion

OpenAI’s latest move highlights how crucial India has become in the global AI landscape. With millions of active ChatGPT users and rapid adoption across education, startups, and corporate sectors, India stands at the forefront of everyday AI integration.

This promotion also comes amid a surge of competition. Rivals like Perplexity AI and Google have recently launched similar free plans in India with Perplexity partnering with Airtel for a free year of Perplexity Pro, and Google offering its AI Pro plan free to students for a limited period.

By offering ChatGPT Go free for one year, OpenAI is not only rewarding its fast-growing Indian user base but also solidifying its lead in the country’s AI ecosystem.
