Dolby Laboratories has announced Dolby Vision 2, the next generation of its HDR technology, designed to unlock the full potential of modern televisions.
Unveiled in San Francisco and Berlin during IFA 2025, Dolby Vision 2 introduces a redesigned image engine and new AI-powered features aimed at elevating picture quality across films, TV shows, live sports, and gaming.
Hisense will be the first TV brand to bring Dolby Vision 2 to its premium lineup, including RGB-MiniLED models.
These will run on MediaTek’s Pentonic 800 chip, the first to integrate Dolby Vision 2.

French broadcaster CANAL+ has also confirmed support, committing to deliver content in the upgraded format.
At the core of Dolby Vision 2 is a more powerful image engine paired with Dolby’s extensive content ecosystem.
It adds Content Intelligence, a suite of adaptive features that optimise visuals for both the content being played and the environment in which it’s viewed.
Highlights include Precision Black, which brightens overly dark images without compromising artistic intent; Light Sense, which adjusts to ambient lighting conditions; and tailored enhancements for sports and gaming, such as improved motion handling and colour adjustments.
Dolby Vision 2 also debuts bi-directional tone mapping, giving creators greater control over brightness and colour on high-performance TVs, and introduces Authentic Motion, a creative tool that refines motion control on a shot-by-shot basis to preserve cinematic intent.
Two product tiers will be available: Dolby Vision 2 Max for flagship TVs with advanced features, and Dolby Vision 2 for mainstream sets, ensuring wider adoption.
With industry partners already onboard, Dolby Vision 2 represents a significant leap beyond HDR, combining artistic flexibility with intelligent display optimisation.
Availability details for consumer devices are expected in the coming months.
