Perplexity AI has launched its much-awaited video generation feature for the “Ask Perplexity” service on X (formerly Twitter). Now, users can generate short, AI-generated videos complete with audio and voice simply by tweeting a topic and mentioning @AskPerplexity. This real-time video generation feature officially went live on June 19.
How the New AI Video Feature Works
Each video clip runs for around eight seconds, including synchronized sound and voice dialogue—marking a new milestone in real-time generative media on social platforms. Since launch, users have creatively tested the tool, generating everything from animated samosa celebrations to humorous portrayals of world leaders. These varied prompts show strong public interest in Perplexity AI’s latest offering.
Despite its creative flexibility, Perplexity AI has implemented strong safeguards to prevent the misuse or creation of inappropriate content through the tool.

High Demand and User Reaction
The new feature saw massive user interest within hours, leading to increased request volumes. The @AskPerplexity bot humorously acknowledged the influx by tweeting, “I’ve read through your video request DMs. Some of y’all need help.” While the comment entertained users, it also highlighted longer wait times caused by high demand.
Perplexity AI’s Broader Expansion
This feature follows the company’s April expansion into WhatsApp, where users gained free access to Perplexity’s AI research assistant along with image generation and Q&A tools.
The real-time video tool on X represents another step toward Perplexity AI’s vision of multimodal AI becoming an everyday digital companion. Although currently limited to X, the feature could eventually expand across more platforms, aligning with the company’s goal to lead in the growing AI media ecosystem.
