Snapchat Forever Chats and Group Streaks Change Everything: Here’s How They Work

Snapchat is rolling out two major updates that change the way users connect on the platform Forever Chats (Infinite Retention) and Group Streaks. These features are designed to give users more control, flexibility, and a sense of community while chatting and keeping streaks alive.

What Are Snapchat’s Forever Chats (Infinite Retention)?

Traditionally, Snapchat’s charm lay in its disappearing messages. Conversations would vanish after being viewed, unless manually saved. But with Infinite Retention, users can now choose to keep chats forever similar to WhatsApp or iMessage.

    Here’s how it works:

    • Users can turn on Infinite Retention for specific conversations.
    • Both participants are notified when this setting is enabled.
    • Either person can turn it off at any time, ensuring full transparency.

This option is particularly useful for close friends, family members, or anyone who prefers keeping a permanent record of chats. Snapchat started testing this feature in 2024 and is now making it available worldwide.

How Do Snapchat Group Streaks Work?

Snapchat streaks have always been about sending a Snap daily to a single friend. With Group Streaks, the platform is making streaks more collaborative and less stressful to maintain.

    Here’s the breakdown:

    • Group Streaks count contributions from all members.
    • Any member’s Snap adds to the group’s streak of progress.
    • If a streak breaks, users can restore it within seven days.

This feature encourages teamwork, making streaks a shared activity among groups of friends who interact regularly. It also takes away the pressure of maintaining streaks alone.

    Why These Snapchat Updates Matter

Snapchat says these features were inspired by community feedback. Forever Chats make the app feel more versatile as a daily messaging tool, while Group Streaks highlight its role in building stronger, more casual connections.

With these updates, Snapchat is bridging the gap between fun, temporary snaps and meaningful, long-term conversations giving users the best of both worlds.
