Microsoft Teams Gets a Massive Update With New Meeting and Security Features

Microsoft has rolled out a fresh set of updates for Microsoft Teams, focusing on improved multitasking, smarter meetings, enhanced calling features, and stronger security protections. The latest changes aim to make Teams more flexible for everyday users, safer for organisations, and easier to manage for admins handling large deployments.

According to Microsoft, these features are now available to users across supported regions. Below is a detailed look at everything new in Microsoft Teams.

    Chat and Collaboration Updates

    Separate Windows for Key Features

Microsoft Teams now allows users to open major sections such as chats, calls, calendar, activity, and apps in separate windows. This update is designed to improve multitasking and workspace organisation.

Users can keep a chat open in one window while viewing their calendar or call history in another, reducing the need to constantly switch tabs. These sections can be popped out by right-clicking on them or using the app flyout, making Teams more adaptable to individual workflows.

Private Team Joining Gets an Approval Layer

Joining a private team using a code will now require approval from the team owner. Even if a user has a valid join code, access is not granted automatically.

Microsoft says this added step improves security by ensuring that every new member is reviewed before joining. The update helps prevent unauthorised or accidental access while keeping the joining process simple for approved users.

Improved Interpreter Support for Multilingual Meetings

Teams has enhanced its Interpreter feature to make multilingual meetings more seamless.

When the Interpreter is enabled, the system can automatically detect the spoken language and sync it with live captions and transcription. If the Interpreter is turned off, captions and transcription will still function, but participants must speak in the language selected in the meeting settings for accurate results.

A new “preparing” status now appears while the Interpreter is getting ready, letting participants know when it is about to become active. Microsoft has also simplified Interpreter settings with clearer and shorter explanations, making setup easier for meeting organisers.

    Teams Phone Updates

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat After Calls

After a call ends, users can now open Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat directly within the Teams Calls app.

Copilot can generate call summaries, highlight key discussion points, and suggest next steps using data from Microsoft Graph and web sources. Microsoft says this feature delivers more personalised and actionable insights, helping users move quickly from conversation to follow-up.

    Compliance Recording for Call Queues

Microsoft Teams Phone now supports third-party compliance recording at the call queue level. This means all calls routed through a specific queue can be automatically recorded.

The feature is especially useful for organisations with large or frequently changing support teams, ensuring consistent compliance without manual intervention.

New Security Tools in Microsoft Teams

    Domain Impersonation Protection

Teams now includes domain impersonation detection for external users. During a first interaction in Teams messages, the system checks the sender’s identity and domain authenticity in real time.

If suspicious activity is detected, Teams flags the interaction and alerts users, helping reduce the risk of phishing and impersonation attacks within organisations.

    Frontline Hub for Admins

Microsoft has introduced Frontline Hub, a new centralised space for deploying, managing, and monitoring frontline Teams experiences.

Available through the Manage frontline teams page in the Teams Admin Center, Frontline Hub brings essential tools into one place. It also provides deployment-stage recommendations and delivers more connected experiences for frontline workers, making large-scale management easier for admins.

    Final Thoughts

With these updates, Microsoft Teams continues to evolve into a more powerful collaboration platform. From improved multitasking and smarter meetings to stronger security and admin controls, the latest features are designed to support modern workplaces across industries.

Microsoft says the rollout is complete, and users should start seeing these updates across Teams on supported devices.
