Indian watchmaker Titan Company Limited has announced chess prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju as the Titan of the Year 2026, recognising the Grandmaster’s remarkable achievements on the global chess stage. Along with the honour, the company has also unveiled a limited edition luxury timepiece inspired by the youngest world chess champion’s strategic brilliance and calm precision.

The announcement marks the second edition of Titan’s ‘Titan of the Year’ initiative, a platform created to celebrate individuals whose achievements push boundaries and elevate India’s presence internationally. The first honouree of the initiative was Indian astronaut Rakesh Sharma.

A Watch Inspired by Strategy and Precision

The newly launched timepiece translates the essence of chess strategy into design. The watch features a marquetry dial crafted from tiger eye and black agate, arranged in a geometric pattern reminiscent of a chessboard. According to Titan, the design symbolises Gukesh’s composed gameplay and his ability to execute decisive moves at the highest level.

The watch’s indices are designed to subtly represent the hierarchy and movement of chess pieces, reflecting the discipline and thoughtful planning associated with the game.

At the back, the rotor carries the Grandmaster Knight motif along with the engraving ‘Youngest World Chess Champion at 18’, commemorating Gukesh’s historic milestone. The timepiece also features lume-filled hands and a distinctive Grandmaster Knight counterpoise, elements that highlight precision and strategic excellence.

    Premium Craftsmanship and Limited Production

The limited edition watch is protected by sapphire crystal and housed in a rose gold-finished 316 stainless steel case and bezel. It runs on Titan’s in-house automatic movement, emphasising the brand’s watchmaking expertise.

Complementing the design is a deep black Italian leather strap, creating a refined contrast with the rose gold finish.

Titan has limited the production to just 500 numbered pieces, making it a highly sought after collector’s item.

    Titan on Celebrating Indian Excellence

Speaking about the recognition, Rahul Shukla, Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of the Watches Division at Titan Company Limited, said the initiative aims to celebrate individuals whose achievements reflect India’s rising influence globally.

According to Shukla, the Titan of the Year platform is envisioned as a “permanent horological gallery” that captures the stories of exceptional Indians through premium watchmaking.

He added that Gukesh’s journey, discipline and accomplishments make him a natural choice for the honour and reflect the ambition and confidence of a new generation of Indians.

    Gukesh on the Recognition

Reacting to the honour, Gukesh Dommaraju said the recognition is a meaningful milestone in his career and reflects India’s growing influence in global chess.

He highlighted that discipline, preparation and patience have played a crucial role in his journey, values that are symbolically captured in the timepiece created in his honour.

The Grandmaster also expressed gratitude for being associated with Titan, a brand known for craftsmanship and trust.

    Price, Availability and Special Packaging

The Gukesh x Grandmaster limited edition watch comes in specially designed packaging that includes a personalised note from Gukesh himself.

Priced at ₹69,995, the watch will be available through:

    • Select Titan World stores
    • Large format retail outlets
    • Premium watch retailers
    • Titan’s official website

With only 500 units available worldwide, the timepiece is positioned as a premium collectible celebrating one of India’s most remarkable chess achievements.
