Sony India Launches FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G for Alpha Cameras

Sony India has launched the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G, Sony’s first fisheye zoom G Lens for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras.

The FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G covers a zoom range from 8mm to 14mm. At the wide end, it captures a circular fisheye view with a 180-degree angle of view. At 14mm, the lens switches to a diagonal fisheye perspective. This covers the full frame, still with a 180-degree angle of view. So, photographers get both circular and diagonal fisheye looks from a single lens, without swapping glass. It works well for landscapes, architecture, sports, and video production.

The lens uses ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and aspherical elements. These control chromatic and other aberrations. As a result, the lens holds resolution across its entire zoom range. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.15m. At the telephoto end, maximum magnification reaches 0.22x. That means users can get close for dramatic fisheye shots, in both stills and video.

Sony has also kept the lens compact. It measures about 63.1mm in diameter and 82.8mm in length. It weighs approximately 314g. This makes it easy to use on gimbals, rigs, and handheld setups. The lens also uses an internal zoom mechanism. This keeps its centre of gravity steady while zooming, for smoother handling.

Autofocus on the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G is fast and precise. Sony has also added Linear Response MF for manual control. The lens suppresses focus breathing too. It operates quietly, which helps during video shoots. For controls, you get a focus mode switch, a zoom lock switch, and an aperture ring with switchable click stops. Sony has given the lens a dust- and moisture-resistant design, plus a fluorine coating on the front. However, the company mentions this isn’t guaranteed to be 100% dust- and moisture-proof.

The Sony FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G is priced at Rs 179,990. It’s available starting 17th September. You’ll find it at Sony Centers, Alpha Flagship stores, Sony authorized dealers, and major electronics retailers across India. You can also buy it on Amazon and Flipkart.
