BMW India has launched the country’s first i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB). It’s the brand’s first locally produced electric sedan here. Bookings are open at BMW dealerships and on the company’s website.
The i5 eDrive35L M Sport has an ex-showroom price of INR 79,60,000. BMW has also rolled out a First Edition at the same price, limited to 99 units. That edition sold out before the official launch.
The i5 LWB uses BMW’s eDrive tech with a single electric motor. It produces 268 hp and 410 Nm of torque, and BMW quotes a 0-100 km/hr time of 6.7 seconds with a top speed of 195 km/hr. The 81.6 kWh battery delivers a claimed range of up to 669 km, tested on the MIDC cycle. Charging tops out at 160 kW DC, so a 10-80% top-up takes about 33 minutes. Buyers also get a complimentary BMW Wallbox charger for home use, supporting up to 11 kW.

At 5,175 mm long, 2,156 mm wide and with a 3,105 mm wheelbase, this is the largest car in its segment with the most spacious cabin. Design high points include an illuminated kidney grille, a reworked Hofmeister kink, and 20-inch M alloy wheels. Inside, the BMW Curved Display has a 12.3-inch instrument screen with a 14.9-inch control display. There’s also a vegan leather interior with ventilated front seats, a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, four-zone climate control, and a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
The First Edition gets a bit more. It gets a dedicated rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and holder, Silver Bronze interior accents, open-pore wood trim, and laser-engraved dashboard badging. BMW matches it exclusively with Carbon Black Metallic paint and Titanium Bronze exterior accents.
The car runs BMW Operating System 8.5 with the Intelligent Personal Assistant and gets remote software upgrades. The MyBMW app extends to Digital Key Plus, letting owners share car access with up to 18 users. Driver assistance features include Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Parking Assistant Professional, and Reverse Assistant, among others.
BMW Group India President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar said the i5 LWB reflects the company’s India strategy, combining electrification with long-wheelbase luxury built for local manufacturing and customer expectations.
