Air pollution is increasingly becoming a serious concern, making air purifiers essential for many households. The combination of outdoor pollutants from vehicles and industries, along with indoor contaminants like cooking fumes, cleaning supplies, pet dander, pollen, dust, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), makes having clean indoor air a necessity rather than a luxury. While many homes have adopted air purifiers, traditional models often come with a bulky design, occupy valuable space, and can be quite loud. Dyson’s HushJet Purifier Compact addresses these issues with its sleek, compact design that offers powerful yet silent purification, along with smart features. Is this the best air purifier with Dyson technology? Let’s find out.
Design & Build
The HushJet Compact stands out immediately for its industrial-yet-refined aesthetic. Weighing just 3.15 kg, it is Dyson’s most compact dedicated purifier. The Black/Teal variant, which we received, gives it a modern, premium feel that integrates into modern living rooms, bedrooms, or offices rather than looking like a bulky appliance. Its cylindrical form with a distinctive star-shaped nozzle on top draws inspiration from aerospace and jet-engine principles, projecting purified air upward in a concentrated vertical jet instead of the more familiar sideways or oscillating flow of many Dyson fans.
Build quality is typically Dyson with solid plastics, precise fit and finish, and a fully sealed machine that prevents pollutants from leaking back into the room. The unit is easy to move and can sit in a corner or against furniture without demanding much floor space. Controls are minimal on the device itself, primarily a few buttons and a clear LCD screen that displays real-time indoor air quality with colour-coded indicators (green for good through to purple for severe). Most interaction happens via the MyDyson app or voice assistants (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri). The long power cord and stable base add practicality. Setup is straightforward, with filters come pre-installed, so it is essentially plug-and-play.
Performance and Features
At the core is Dyson’s HushJet air-projection technology. Dirty air is drawn in through the 360-degree base (up to about 70 litres per second), filtered, and then ejected as a focused, high-velocity jet from the star-shaped nozzle. This design maximises flow while reducing turbulence and noise.
Filtration uses two stages. The outer 360° electrostatic filter captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, like dust, allergens, pollen, pet dander, mould spores, and more. It is also rated for up to five years of life under typical use. This longer lifespan reduces replacement frequency and cost compared with conventional HEPA filters. The inner 360° activated-carbon filter targets odours (cooking, pets) and gases such as nitrogen dioxide. The entire machine is fully sealed so captured pollutants stay trapped.
Sensors continuously monitor air quality (PM2.5, PM10 and related pollutants), cross-checking data every second. In Auto mode, the unit reacts quickly and ramps up fan speed when levels rise (from cooking, open windows or other sources) and settles back down once the air clears. Sleep mode drops noise to a claimed 24 dB, comparable to a whisper, making it suitable for bedrooms.
The MyDyson app provides remote control, real-time and historical air-quality data (including outdoor indicators in supported regions), filter-life alerts, monthly reports and scheduling. Voice control adds convenience. Energy use is efficient thanks to Auto mode, which runs only as needed. It is a dedicated purifier only, with no heating or cooling function, so it does not double as a fan for temperature control.
Verdict
The Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact offers excellent air purification, quiet operation, and stylish design in a compact size. Its long-lasting electrostatic filter, sealed design, and smart features make it low-maintenance and effective against indoor pollutants. While it comes at a premium price and may not cover very large spaces as effectively, its notable air circulation and aesthetic appeal make it a strong choice for those prioritizing quiet operation and clean air. Although filter replacement costs should be considered, it stands out as a convincing option for users who value both functionality, luxury and style.
