    Mivi AI Buds Review

A Bold Leap into AI-Powered Audio

True wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds have grown beyond mere music playback, and Mivi’s AI Buds are a prime example of this shift. Launched by the Indian audio brand Mivi, these earbuds integrate a conversational AI platform, marketed as the “world’s first human-like AI” for earbuds. Priced at Rs. 6,999 (though often available for Rs. 3,999), they boast features like Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), LDAC codec, and a 40-hour battery life. But are these the best AI-powered earbuds on the market? Let’s dive in.

    Design and Build

The Mivi AI Buds sport a striking, hourglass-inspired design with a glossy metallic finish that screams style. The oval-shaped charging case are compact and lightweight, with the case measuring 6.3 x 5.0 x 3.4 cm and weighing just 52 grams. The ergonomic fit ensures comfort during long sessions, staying secure even during workouts or brisk walks. Extra ear tips are included for customization, enhancing the fit.

However, the glossy finish, while eye-catching, is a magnet for scratches and smudges. Cleaning the buds and case is a chore, as fingerprints and dirt cling stubbornly to the surface. The case’s magnetic closure is satisfying, but opening it one-handed can be tricky, especially on the move. Compared to Mivi’s own SuperPods Concerto, which offers a similar aesthetic at a lower price, the premium feel doesn’t fully justify the cost. Still, the design is Instagram-worthy and practical for daily use.

    Performance

The Mivi AI Buds deliver solid audio performance, powered by 13mm dynamic drivers and supporting high-resolution LDAC codec for detailed sound. Bass lovers will appreciate the punchy lows, while mids and highs remain clear, making these buds ideal for genres like EDM or hip-hop. The 3D Soundstage and Spatial Audio create an immersive listening experience, perfect for music and OTT content. The Mivi AI app enhances functionality with equalizer presets (Bass Boost, Pop, Jazz, etc.), battery monitoring, and a unique Kids Mode that reduces bass for safer listening.

The quad-mic setup and up to 35dB ANC effectively dampen ambient noise, performing well in noisy environments like offices or public transport. However, Transparency Mode is underwhelming, failing to let in surrounding sounds clearly. Battery life is a highlight, offering up to 40 hours with the case, though charging takes about two hours via USB-C, with no wireless charging option. Dual-device connectivity and Bluetooth 5.4 ensure seamless pairing, though occasional manual connections were needed.

    AI Experience

The standout feature is Mivi AI, activated by saying “Hi Mivi.” It supports eight Indian languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, etc.) and uses avatars like Guru, Chef, or Wellness Coach to guide conversations, from recipes to interview prep. The AI aims to be intuitive, remembering past interactions for personalized responses. However, the experience feels unpolished. Voice recognition, especially for non-English commands, is inconsistent, and responses can lag or miss context. There’s no auditory confirmation of activation, which disrupts the flow. While the concept of a screen-free AI companion is innovative, it’s not as seamless as Google Assistant or Siri and relies heavily on the app, which can disconnect unexpectedly.

    Verdict

The Mivi AI Buds are a bold attempt to blend audio excellence with AI innovation. Their stylish design, robust bass, and decent ANC make them a strong contender under 5K. However, the glossy build’s susceptibility to scratches and the unrefined AI experience hold them back. For Android users seeking bass-heavy earbuds with unique AI features, they’re a compelling choice, but those prioritizing polished AI or premium design might find better alternatives. Mivi’s ambition is admirable, but the AI needs refinement to truly shine.
