YouTube has started rolling out a new Gemini-powered “Ask” feature that lets users interact directly with video content through AI. This new tool allows viewers to ask questions about the video they’re watching and get quick summaries, topic explanations, or short quizzes all without leaving the video screen.
The Ask button, represented by a Gemini star icon, appears just below the video player between the Share and Download buttons. Currently available on select English-language videos, the feature is being tested on Android, iPhone, and desktop platforms. With Gemini integrated into YouTube, users can now explore videos more deeply and get real-time answers about what they’re watching.
How the Gemini-powered Ask feature works
YouTube’s new conversational AI tool is designed to make video learning more interactive and engaging. The feature lets users ask questions directly related to a video, whether it’s to understand a concept better, get additional context, or find related videos without having to pause or open a new tab.
The system uses Google’s large language models (LLMs) to provide detailed, context-aware responses by pulling information from both YouTube’s content library and the wider web. This allows Gemini to deliver accurate, relevant, and easy-to-understand answers, helping users explore and learn seamlessly while watching.
