Snapchat Introduces “Footsteps” Feature for iOS Users

Snapchat has recently launched an exciting new feature for iOS users called “Footsteps,” allowing them to track all the places they’ve explored and from which they’ve sent snaps. This innovative tool enhances the Snapchat experience, but it only functions when users disable Ghost Mode, a feature that keeps their location hidden from others.

The Footsteps feature harnesses the power of Snap Map and Memories to create a detailed journey of users’ travels. Upon first use, Footsteps generates an initial trail based on past trips stored in Memories. As users continue to explore, the feature seamlessly updates, using location data to chronicle their adventures. Previously an exclusive offering for Snapchat+ subscribers, Footsteps is now available to all iOS users, providing a new layer of personalization to the platform.

Privacy remains a top priority for Snapchat; Footsteps data is only accessible to the account holder. Users can rest easy knowing they can manage their history, with the option to delete their Footsteps record at any time. This functionality was confirmed by Gadgets 360 staff, who noted that the feature became available following the update to Snapchat version 13.9.0.40.

    More Innovations from Snapchat

In addition to Footsteps, Snapchat made waves at the Snap Partner Summit 2024 with a slew of new features and updates. One of the most notable announcements was a partnership with Google to integrate the Gemini large language model (LLM) into My AI, Snapchat’s AI chatbot. This integration is set to enhance My AI’s capabilities significantly, improving its processing of text, audio, images, video, and code while leveraging advanced computer vision.

Snapchat also unveiled the Snap AI Video feature, which allows creators to generate AI-driven videos from text prompts, adding a new dimension to content creation on the platform. Another fun addition is the new AI Lens, which offers users a glimpse of their older selves, merging creativity with innovative technology. Furthermore, AI Lenses and caption features have been expanded to Snapchat Memories, enriching the way users share and relive their moments.

As Snapchat continues to evolve, features like Footsteps demonstrate the platform’s commitment to enhancing user experience while maintaining a focus on privacy and innovation. With these updates, users can look forward to a more interactive and engaging way to connect and share their journeys.
