OpenAI’s ChatGPT Gets A Dedicated Windows App

With ChatGPT fast becoming a staple for PC users worldwide, OpenAI has come up with a dedicated Windows app that can be downloaded in its beta form right now. However, this app will only work for those with paid accounts, the company has said. Eventually, though, it will be made available to all users, regardless of their subscriptions.

This move follows OpenAI’s launch of ChatGPT’s Mac app this June. Contrary to the Windows app, however, it was available to everyone from day one. While that app allows users to access ChatGPT from any screen by pressing Option + Space together, the Windows app has the Alt + Space shortcut dedicated for this purpose.

The ChatGPT app will allow users to access its features in a separate window instead of having it open in a tab. It will support the uploading of files and photos to summarize and analyze multiple documents. And there’s even access to a preview of the OpenAI’s o1 model that’s capable of “reasoning.” What’s missing is an advanced voice mode and a few other functionalities.

November 2022 is when OpenAI introduced ChatGPT to the world, bringing to the fore an intelligent chatbot designed to engage in conversations, generate human-quality text, and translate languages. The large language model at play was GPT-3.5, which has since been succeeded by a number of more powerful versions.

From writing essays and poetry to answering complex questions, ChatGPT demonstrated a remarkable capacity to understand and respond to natural language. It’s no wonder, then, that it managed to amass millions of users in a matter of weeks, becoming one of the fastest-growing consumer applications in history. Today, it boasts approximately 180.5 million users and contributes massively to OpenAI’s whopping $157 billion valuation.

The ChatGPT can be grabbed now from the Microsoft Store, but only Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu users can actually use it.
