Nothing is releasing its first over-ear headphones this summer and will offer similar sound quality to Apple AirPods Max and Sony WH-1000XM6 but at a cheaper price. Nothing uploaded a video on its YouTube page that featured its design team conducting an in-house conversation about the new headphone and discussing important information of what we can look forward to from the London company.
Interestingly, Nothing CEO Carl Pei, in 2022, posted some fan-designed concept pictures of the “Crazy Cool Nothing Head (1).” Now, after over two and a half years, the London consumer electronics brand has finally revealed that indeed it had been developing over-the-ear headphones and is all set to launch it this year.
Nothing Over-the-Ear Headphones: What to Expect
In the video, Nothing designers were very vocal about their discontent with the type of options that are available today in the headphone industry. They conveyed that they don’t enjoy the look of the headphones in the current times and some of the headphones such as Apple AirPods Max have a high price tag which makes its availability difficult for the masses. Apparently, they have taken care of this aspect as they aim to release a product at a lower price.
The new headphones are said to have simpler and clear buttons. The reason for this is that the wearer should know what control they are touching on the headphones while wearing them. The team also added that the new headphones will stand out because it will “say something about you.”

The designers revealed that having produced five generations of sound wearables, i.e., Nothing Ear, Nothing Ear (1), Nothing Ear (2), Nothing Ear (a), and Nothing Ear (Stick), the company has gained a decent expertise in the category. They would be utilizing their expertise to good advantage by providing top-quality audio in the future over-the-ear headphones. They assured that the quality of sound is their highest priority. A team member went further to state: “I think they are better than AirPods Max.”
To determine whether this is a market fit or not, the firm intends to reach out to its community for feedback to help shape the final product before it launches.
Conclusion
Nothing’s upcoming over-ear headphones are shaping up to be a promising contender in the premium audio space. With a strong focus on design, sound quality, user-friendly controls, and a more accessible price point, the brand is clearly aiming to disrupt the market dominated by Apple and Sony. Backed by its experience in developing multiple generations of earbuds and a community-driven development approach, Nothing could potentially redefine what consumers expect from over-ear headphones in 2025. All eyes will be on this launch as Nothing continues to make bold moves in the audio tech industry.
