Apple is gearing up to launch the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air later this year, which will reportedly replace the current Plus model in the iPhone lineup. According to a report, this new iPhone Air model won’t be a one-time release. Apple has already started planning future generations of the Air variant, indicating it will become a regular part of the brand’s annual iPhone update cycle. A major update is also expected in 2027, the report states.

The report highlights insights from well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claims that Apple is developing a future iPhone Air model with a larger display. Following the debut of the iPhone 17 Air this year, the iPhone 18 Air is expected to get only minor specification improvements. Meanwhile, the iPhone 19 Air, set to launch in 2027, will reportedly feature a significantly larger screen.

Although Kuo did not provide exact dimensions, the iPhone 19 Air could sport a screen size similar to the current 6.9-inch Pro Max models. In comparison, the iPhone 17 Air is tipped to have a 6.6-inch display, offering a balance between portability and screen real estate.

iPhone 17 Air: What to Expect

The iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever, measuring just 5.5mm in thickness. This would make it slimmer than the iPhone 6, which currently holds the record at 6.9mm. To achieve this ultra-thin profile, Apple may scale back on some hardware components most notably, the rear camera system might feature just a single 48MP sensor, paired with a 24MP front camera.

Display-wise, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a 6.6-inch screen with ProMotion support, allowing for adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. It is also expected to include the new Camera Control button, introduced with the iPhone 16 series.

In terms of performance, the iPhone 17 Air will reportedly be powered by Apple’s next-generation A19 chip and include the Apple C1 modem, which debuted with the iPhone 16e.
