Samsung has shared insights into the engineering and innovation behind the manufacturing of its latest foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold8. With eight generations of foldable design under its belt, Samsung highlights its commitment to balancing portability, durability, display quality, battery performance, and long-term reliability.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs just 201 grams and measures 4.5mm when unfolded and 9.7mm when folded. Achieving this compact design required a thorough examination of approximately 270 components and over 180 auxiliary parts. Samsung optimised the display, hinge, materials, internal architecture, and component layout to enhance both form and performance.
Samsung’s approach to materials is guided by the principle of using the right material in the right place. For instance, Flex Titanium combines an ultra-thin titanium-alloy film with a robust titanium support plate, offering the strength, flexibility, and structural support needed for the folding display. This innovative material usage contributes to a thinner display module and improved stability over time.
Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold8 frame uses Advanced Armour Aluminium, delivering the needed rigidity and resistance to deformation without adding excessive weight.
