Sony Alpha 7R VI Arrives in India With 66.8MP Sensor, 30fps Burst Shooting and AI-Powered Autofocus

Sony has expanded its premium mirrorless camera portfolio in India with the launch of the Alpha 7R VI, a high-resolution full-frame camera aimed at professional photographers and filmmakers. Building on the Alpha 7R legacy, the new model pairs a 66.8-megapixel back-illuminated stacked Exmor RS sensor with Sony’s latest BIONZ XR2 image processor, promising significant gains in speed, autofocus performance and image quality.

The Alpha 7R VI’s headline feature is its ability to combine ultra-high resolution with speed. Thanks to a sensor readout that’s claimed to be 5.6 times faster than its predecessor, the camera can shoot continuously at up to 30fps with blackout-free viewing while performing up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second. Sony has also upgraded its AI-powered autofocus system with skeletal pose estimation, enabling more accurate tracking of people and fast-moving subjects.

Video creators haven’t been left behind either. The Alpha 7R VI supports 8K 30p recording with oversampling, alongside 4K 60p and 4K 120p capture. Sony has also introduced Dual Gain Shooting for improved dynamic range and lower noise, while enhanced in-body stabilisation and improved thermal management allow for extended handheld shooting and up to 120 minutes of uninterrupted 8K recording under supported conditions.

Perhaps the most interesting addition is support for Sony’s Camera Authenticity Solution, based on the C2PA standard, allowing creators to verify that images and videos were captured in-camera rather than generated by AI. At a time when synthetic media is becoming increasingly convincing, this feature could prove just as significant as the camera’s hardware upgrades. Sony has also unveiled the XLR-A4 audio adaptor, bringing professional 32-bit float audio recording directly into compatible Alpha cameras.

Priced at ₹4,70,990, the Sony Alpha 7R VI will be available in India from 3 July 2026 through Sony retail stores, ShopatSC.com and Amazon. As an introductory offer, buyers will receive a complimentary NP-SA100 battery, worth ₹10,490, for a limited period.
