Apple to resolve iOS 16’s camera shaking and copy-paste bug soon

Apple found itself in troubled waters when a number of issues in the latest lineup of the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max and the iOS 16 update were found. We had reported that users were facing a camera shaking issue using third-party apps, whereas, iOS 16’s copy-paste popup was another bug irritating users. It is now revealed that Apple’s new iOS 16 operating system is all set to receive a significant update which fixes the first set of bugs.

Apple to fix iOS 16 bugs

Apple recently confirmed to Bloomberg that it will be releasing a software update to fix the camera shake affecting iPhone 14 pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. Recently, users started sharing videos on social media showcasing that the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max models were facing camera shaking issues while using it on third-party apps like Snapchat and Instagram. The native Apple camera app was working fine but it was only during third-party app usage is when the issue popped up.

Some users were convinced that this is a hardware issue with the new phone, however, they will now be able to fix it by simply installing a software update. it is expected that the update will be rolled out next week. It seems that the issue is rooted in the firmware that controlled Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) system in the lenses. An audible rattling sound was also present from inside the camera module, whereas, the video output would be a shaky mess.

Apple had previously also acknowledged the copy-paste bug in the latest iOS 16. Users were being asked again and again if they want to give a certain app access to the clipboard. The company’s aim in adding the option was to protect user privacy but it surely didn’t work out as planned. It looks like these issues did not come forward during Apple’s internal and beta testing. However, the iOS 16.2 update will address both these issues and send a quick fix.

Apple users face another iOS 16 bug with copy-paste feature

It was only yesterday when we shared that the latest iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max users are facing a camera issue with third-party apps. The latest iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max models are going through a shaky phase as its camera is shaking and making a grinding sound while trying to use Instagram, Snapchat and other third-party applications. The videos of the shaky camera had just started making the rounds and now another bug has been reported in the latest iOS 16. Users are now reporting that they are facing an annoying copy-paste prompt on iOS 16. Read below to know more:

iOS 16 copy-paste bug

In iOS 16, a new prompt has started to appear which seems to be related to privacy and security reasons. Whenever a user wants to paste something from one app to another, the following app now must ask for permission to access the clipboard. Users cannot paste content from one app to another without giving clipboard permission to the apps. While this seems like a good addition by Apple to increase security, it is coming off as an annoyance for users. Besides, some users are reporting that they are getting the permission prompt even after giving access to the apps, which for sure is annoying.

The bug comes after Apple had advertised its new feature of allowing users to copy text straight from videos. An email was sent by a MacRumours reader to Apple CEO Tim Cook and Craig Federighi, the senior vice president of software engineering at Apple. While there was no reply from the two heads, a senior manager at Apple, Ron Huang, replied to the email stating that the company will get to the bottom of this issue. The email reply also added that the copy-paste bug is definitely not something that the company expected. According to Huang, the tech giant had not faced the copy-paste bug during its internal testing.

The copy-paste bug in iOS 16 also comes right after some users reported that the battery percentage indicator was not working for them. After installing iOS 16 on any iPhone with Face ID, users can make the battery percentage in the status bar in theory. However, that was not the case with the iPhone XR. iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and 13 mini. The devices did not receive this feature and are currently waiting for the same. It is expected that the iOS 16.1 beta update will bring this feature to the mentioned devices.

iOS 16 has a better adoption rate than last year’s update

It’s only been a few days since the iOS 16 dropped and the verdict for its adoption by iPhone users is already out! It looks like users are more interested in upgrading the operating system than they were last year with the iOS 15. Though fewer devices are supporting iOS 16, iPhone users have swiftly made their way to an upgrade.

iOS 16 adoption rate

The data has been compiled by Mixpanel, which reveals that iOS 16 brought more users to update their devices as compared to the iOS 15 update. However, the iOS update with the highest rate of adoption was interestingly the iOS 14. The data shared by Mixpanel states that iOS 16 has been downloaded by 6.71% of users as compared to iOS 15. The previous update was downloaded by only 6.48% of users. Both updates have been marginally passed by iOS 14, it was downloaded by 9.22% on its first day of release.

If data is compared by the first three days of the original releases then, iOS 16 had 10.45% adoption. Whereas, iOS 15 and iOS 14 had an adoption rate of 9.68% and 14.68% respectively. The reason why iOS 14 was adopted by users quickly lies in the major changes Apple introduced along with it. It was the first iOS update to feature widgets on the home screen. The update revamped the look and feel of using an iOS device. Back then, apps which could customize the home screen had also taken a mainstream swing.

However, iOS 15 on the other hand was a rather standard update. It was touted as the ‘pandemic’ update by many as it launched during peak pandemic and featured minuscule updates to FaceTime, Notifications, and more. Though this update was not exciting enough for users to rush to update it. The newly revamped iOS 16 lock screen could be one reason why Apple users are adopting the update quickly. Check out the adoption rate of iOS 16 HERE. Have you updated your iPhone to iOS 16 yet?

Next iPhone and Mac lineup to feature advanced TSMC chips

Apple only recently introduced the iPhone 14 lineup and rumour mills have started reporting that the work for the iPhone 15 lineup has already commenced. The latest iPhone series did bring some refreshing changes but kept them exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max models. This has fueled rumours that next year, even the standard iPhone 15 lineup will include Pro Features like Dynamic Island and the latest chip. While the rumours cannot be confirmed or denied as they are not officially clarified, some reports suggest that Apple is planning to use updated 3nm chipsets from Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC in next year’s iPhones and Macbooks.

TSMC chips in iPhone and Mac

A recent report revealed that Apple is planning to use the Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC’s latest chip for the upcoming iPhones and Macbooks. The A17 mobile processor, expected to power the iPhone 15 lineup is currently under development. It will reportedly be mass-produced using TSMC’s N3E chipmaking tech. However, there hasn’t been any confirmation from Apple about the same. TSMC chipmaker controls 54% of the global market for contractually produced chips. They supply to multiple tech firms including Apple and Qualcomm.

The news of Apple using TSMC chips for its next big iPhone and Mac lineup comes around the time when Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen has warned the world that the semiconductor industry faces volatile challenges. Taiwan is home to TSMC which is the world’s largest chipmaker. It is also a prominent producer of semiconductors used in cellphones, data centres, washing machines, etc.

Tsai did not clarify what challenges the industry is currently facing but since the inception of the COVID-19 pandemic, the shortage of chips has been a major problem. The shortage of chips hampered the production of cars and many consumer electronics. The Taiwanese chip manufacturing firms have also taken a hit from the soaring inflation, recession fears and the impact of the war in Ukraine. However, the President is adamant that Taiwan stays the leader in advanced chips.

New iPhone features that Android has for years

Apple Vs Android is a battle known to heat up each year around the new iPhones being launched. Every year with the release of the new iPhone lineup, loyal Android users make their way to social media to criticize if not troll Apple for not including enough upgrades in the devices. Whereas, some are also quick to share how Apple is late to the party in providing features that Android devices possess for years. We do not know if Apple uses new Android features as a blueprint to design their latest iPhones, however, the similarities are surely uncanny. Here are some latest iPhone 14 features that Android devices have been sporting for years:

Always-on Display

Apple recently announced that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models will have an always-on display. The display will provide information like time and other widgets. While Apple has finally brought the feature of the always-on display just now, it has been a staple for Android devices for a long time!

48MP Camera

iPhones are notoriously slow when it comes to resolution upgrades. The company has always stood its ground with the ‘Why Fix What Isn’t Broken’ approach for its camera resolution. With the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, Apple has finally given its devices a higher resolution camera. The new flagship devices from Apple feature a 48MP camera. However, Android introduced the 48MP lens long back. In 2022, having camera resolutions of 50MP and 108MP is quite common.

Crash Detection

Apple has recently been emphasizing its health and safety features. While introducing the crash detection feature in iPhones during the ‘Far Out’ event, Apple instated that this is a feature they never want people to use. As noble as that sounds, Crash detection is undeniably an important feature. However, the Google Pixel 4a was the first device to have this feature.

Autofocusing Front Camera and Action Mode

smartphones do not include autofocus in the front-facing camera as the front of the device does not support enough real estate to fit one. Apple integrated autofocus in the selfie camera as one of its key features in 2022, however, Samsung had already conquered that feature back with the S8 in 2017. Apple also introduced the Action Mode in video recording to capture steady videos in bumpy conditions. This feature was first introduced in Samsung Galaxy as ‘Super Steady’ video.

Apple to start renting iPhones through subscription model?

Subscription services have seen a significant boom in the past decade. While users are paying a considerable for OTT entertainment like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. others also pay for lifestyle product subscriptions like SugarBox, Fab Bag, and more. Well, it looks like now tech giants like Apple are looking to dig into the subscription model and bring their products to the customer with a monthly fee.

Apple Subscription model

Apple recently announced its latest lineup of iPhones with the iPhone 14 series. The devices as flagship as they are, come with a flagship price too. The standard iPhone 14 is priced at 79,900 whereas the pro variants start at 1,29,900 which is undoubtedly a hefty amount to shell out. While there are many ways for users to pay for the device gradually, there hasn’t been a subscription model which allows users to rent a device from Apple directly.

The new hardware subscription service could possibly tie into Apple One Bundles and AppleCare. With the option to get iPhones on a subscription model, users will also be able to get access to bundled services like Apple TV+ and extra iCloud storage. While the new model does sound interesting it is unclear what the pricing of this model will be. It is being reported that the subscription model was not introduced in the latest Apple event to minimize launch day complexity. However, with the next Apple event lined up in October, it is likely that the subscription model will get announced then. However, there have been no official confirmations about the same.

With the latest subscription model, users will be able to rent a device for a year or two. It is not sure whether Apple will allow users to keep the device after the end of the rent tenure. Details about how the subscription model would work if users end up causing any damage to the device are also yet unknown. Would you be interested in renting an iPhone as opposed to buying one?

Hurray, finally, we have a new iPhone, but to our disappointment, there’s nothing new except the pro models who played the role of a night watchman really well. The dual-frequency GPS of the Ultra Watch allows the watch to deliver accurate distance, pace and route calculations. Apple iPhone 14 series launch: What to expect from the latest line-up

We’re just two days away from the Apple ‘Far Out’ event which is expected to introduce the next generation of iPhone to the world. This year-round, a significant upgrade is anticipated amongst fans with the latest iPhone 14 line-up. While leaks have been all over the internet about the upcoming devices months before any official announcements, there naturally has been no confirmation about the same from Apple, only fueling the hype more & more. Read below to learn about what is expected from the latest iPhone 14 series:

iPhone 14: Latest A16 chip

Reports on the internet suggest that the iPhone 14, like its predecessors, will be receiving a processing chip upgrade. Apple will be introducing its latest powerhouse processor, the A16 chip; however, leaks also suggest that only the pro variant of the iPhone 14 will feature the newest chip, whereas the regular variants will opt for an A15 Bionic chip, the same as the iPhone 13. The A15 Bionic could be clocked higher than last year’s devices.

iPhone 14: Goodbye Mini

Leaks suggest that Apple will be ditching the mini variant of the latest iPhone 14. While the mini line-up has had vocal supporters ever since its inception with the iPhone 12, there simply haven’t been the sales that suggest it is a successful outing for the tech giant. Apple is expected to release two 6.1-inch devices and the pro line-up, which will be 6.7-inches.

iPhone 14: Finally, a bigger camera?

Apple has long stuck around with the 12MP wide-angle main camera, which is beloved by many fans around the world. However, it looks like the company is now opting for a much larger 48MP sensor. While a welcoming change, it is rumoured that the significant camera upgrade will be reserved for the pro variants, similar to the chipset upgrade.

iPhone 14: Notch upgrade

Apple has long been criticized for its standard notch, while the competing Android smartphones have long opted for a smaller one. It looks like the company is now ready for a significant change with its notch design and will now feature a sleeker pill-shaped notch. However, this change is currently being reserved for the pro models of the iPhone 14 series, and the regular iPhone 14s will sport the classic notch.
