Beyond Impulse – The Science of Scoring the Ultimate iPhone Deal

When it comes to acquiring the latest in technological marvels, few names resonate as powerfully as the iPhone. The allure of cutting-edge features, enhanced performance, and an unrivalled user experience can be irresistible. However, the seasoned consumer knows that a well-timed purchase can make all the difference between a savvy investment and a less-than-ideal expenditure.

A cardinal rule in the realm of iPhone acquisitions is to exercise patience during the months of July and August. This is not a whim but a calculated manoeuvre stemming from Apple’s pattern of unveiling its newest iPhone iterations in September. The rationale is simple yet profound: the imminent launch of new models triggers a domino effect, driving down the prices of their predecessors.

The art of precision extends beyond mere timing. It’s not just about when but also about how. The impulse to seize the latest iPhone hot off the press might not always yield the best outcome. Contrary to common assumption, the sweet spot for acquisition is sometimes right after the curtain rises on the new model. A prudent course of action involves allowing a brief interlude—perhaps a month or two.

However, the realm of shrewd iPhone procurement harbours more than just temporal considerations. As the calendar turns, strategic shopping events come to the fore, beckoning the discerning buyer. Think about the October shopping extravaganza and the legendary Black Friday. These moments in retail offer a glimmer of hope to those hunting for a deal on the cherished device. But, let it be known: while these occasions might tantalize with discounts, the latest iPhone incarnations typically remain sheltered from steep price reductions.

Apple’s modus operandi in pricing strategy has proven itself to be a symphony of timing and tactics. The price tags of newly minted iPhones seldom witness a significant plummet within their debut year. Instead, Apple employs a subtle dance, often stepping back on the cost of the previous year’s model when its successor is unveiled. This captivating performance typically graces the stage in September, with potential encores in the spring.

In summation, the pilgrimage for the most opportune iPhone purchase entails a delicate minuet through the annals of time. With their promise of blooming possibilities, the festival time often delivers the best chance to embrace the latest iPhone incarnations. For those with an appetite for a slightly more seasoned vintage, the siren calls of Black Friday might beckon with alluring offers.

In the grand tapestry of iPhone acquisitions, let the months of July and August serve as a cautionary tale, a vivid reminder of the impending harvest of new models and the subsequent cascade of price adjustments. Ultimately, as seekers of the perfect iPhone deal navigate the shifting tides of opportunity, one truth stands resolute: timing, in all its nuanced glory, reigns supreme in the realm of the discerning buyer.

It is to be seen whether this change in Twitter will lead it to become a better platform or lead to its eventual irrelevance.

iPhone 14 production affected

China’s Foxconn area in Zhengzhou went into a lockdown in recent times which made major headlines. However, the lockdown did not stop Foxconn from halting production of the iPhone 14 as it ordered workers to live in the factory complex and work on the production during an active covid outbreak. However, many workers were then seen fleeing the area, climbing fences, and walking around the Foxconn vicinity which has led to the iPhone 14 production getting affected.

Netflix is now cheaper than before!

The OTT giant Netflix has now launched its basic ad-supported platform in several countries. Under this plan, users will be able to stream 720P content that will be limited to a single device support only. Netflix states that users will get 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour of content. Initial iPhone 14 Plus sales lower than expected

Tech giant Apple’s recently released iPhone 14 Plus is witnessing low traction. The newly released device is not up to the mark when it comes to demand as it has registered unexpectedly low sales. Apple fanatics and tech enthusiasts can easily pinpoint the reason behind the lack of sales for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. The devices were considerably overshadowed by the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max as they come with a revamped design and a newer fast chip.

iPhone 14 Plus sales disappoint

DigiTimes was the first portal to reveal that the iPhone 14 Plus sales have not kicked off as one would expect with the premium Apple device. People are leaning more toward the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. While there is a sharp difference between the sales performance of iPhone 14 Pro and non-pro devices, the overall shipment of the new devices is the same as those of the iPhone 13 lineup in the second half of 2021.

It is reported that if the sales of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus remain the same then Apple may cut out the orders of parts included in making those devices in the second half of October itself. If Apple decides to cut part orders more aggressively than expected then the total shipment of the iPhone 14 lineup could fall down more as compared to the iPhone 13 series last year. That is an alarming development considering the iPhone 14 Plus was seated by Apple between the sweet spot of the standard iPhone 14 and the 14 Pro models. The device was expected to make a big splash in the market with its larger form factor housing a vibrant 6.7-inch display. The device also offers the best battery life on an iPhone to this date with its large battery capacity.

The picture is quite clear here. Apple fanatics are ready to pay the higher price to get the Pro models if they offer good enough upgrades. The iPhone 14 Pro definitely has new things to offer to its users with the revamped notch ‘Dynamic Island’ design and the 48MP camera capacity. Looking at this development, it will be interesting to see if Apple continues the same trend of reserving specification bumps for the Pro models and the standard variants receive a few tweaks here and there. Looking at Apple’s history, it won’t be an outlandish assumption to make.

iPhone 14’s crash detection feature triggered by roller coasters?

During its ‘Far Out’ event last month, Apple unveiled a number of new devices and features. zone of the key feature coming to the latest iPhone 14 series was the ‘Crash Detection’. This new feature is designed by Apple to detect severe car crashes like front impact, side-impact, rear-end collisions and rollovers in vehicles like sedans, minivans, SUVs, pickup trucks, and other passenger cars. However, the crash detection feature had a little accident of its own when it detected a crash when the iPhone user was enjoying his ride on a roller coaster!

iPhone 14 Pro detects roller coaster ride as car crash

As reported in Wall Street Journal, a 39-year-old dentist safely placed her iPhone 14 Pro in her fanny pack before hopping on a roller coaster. She went on the ride getting whipped around in the roller coaster at over 50 mph. However, once she got down from the ride and looked at her phone, she was surprised to see a number of missed calls and voice mails form an emergency dispatcher eager to know if she was safe.

The crash detection feature triggered on the roller coaster and automatically dialled 911 to drop in an automated message. The message read “The owner of this iPhone was in a severe car crash and is not responding to their phone”. According to the 911 report, a dispatch team was sent to the ride but did not notice any emergency situation.

The crash detection feature is quickly becoming an issue for amusement rides. Theme park specialist Coaster101 also reported this same issue sharing that Dollywood amusement park has now put up signboards outside their roller coasters warning riders that Apple watches and similar products may trigger the crash detection feature. Whether this issue will be persistent or will be resolved via an update is to be seen. Apple has not officially issued a statement about the same yet.

No TouchID for future flagship iPhones?

Apple stunned the world with its recent launch event introducing the new iPhone 14 series. While Apple’s flagship devices have washed their hands clean off the TouchID, there have been several reports in the past that suggest that it will be making its way back. Ever since Apple moved to FaceID with its flagship offerings, Apple fans have speculated that the company will be implementing an in-screen fingerprint sensor on its devices. Android devices have been sporting the feature for years so fans expecting the same from Apple is only natural. But it looks like Apple has no interest to introduce the in-display fingerprint sensor in iPhones.

TouchID abandoned?

If you ask me, back in the day Apple’s home button with TouchID was its identity. The classic design surely ruled over millions of hearts as it brought a sense of familiarity through years of design retention. It was back in 2017 when Apple decided to move away from the classic design for its flagship offering with the iPhone X which introduced Apple’s FaceID, and of course, the notch. The same year, Apple also introduced the iPhone 8/8 Plus which kept the classic design and home button with TouchID. Cut to 2022, when the tech giant introduced the iPhone 14 lineup, all equipped with notches and FaceID. it’s been half a decade since Apple introduced FaceID and in my opinion, it is time for a change. But the tech giant doesn’t feel the same!

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently shared his latest edition of the Power On newsletter where he shared that Apple has no plans of bringing back the TouchID anytime soon. According to Gurman, and leaks over the internet, Apple tested the under-screen TouchID in recent years. The resources utilized in testing the under-screen TouchID feature surely will not go to waste as Apple might implement it in the future. Will it happen with the iPhone 15 coming next year? Not at all! In fact, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has tweeted that the under-display fingerprint sensor will not make its way to the iPhone even in 2024. This means that we tentatively have over two generations of the iPhone to go before we can possibly see the feature.

But the question to ask here is whether we really need this feature. the answer for me is definitely yes! Android devices have been rocking the in-display fingerprint sensor for years now and it’s only about time that Apple brings this feature to iPhone! Technology moves at a fast pace and Apple has a lot of catching up to do. The company’s obsession to provide quality features at its own pace is commendable for sure but come on hurry up a little!

iPhone 14’s ‘Crash Detection’ feature fails to recognize collision

Apple launched the iPhone 14 lineup last month during its ‘Far Out’ event. The tech giant took a significant amount of the event to talk about its new crash detection technology. According to Apple’s own website, the crash detection feature is designed to detect severe car crashes. The latest iPhone 14 and 14 pro models can detect front, side, and rear-end collisions and rollovers in a range of vehicles like sedans, minivans, SUVs, pick-up trucks, and much more. If a heavy collision occurs, the iPhone 14/14 Pro models sound an alarm or display an alert. If a user is unable to respond to the alert in 20 seconds, the device automatically calls emergency services. While this feature has the potential to save many lives, a new test has shown that the iPhone 14 was unable to recognize a car collision.

iPhone 14 fails to detect collision

A video from Wall Street Journal recently surfaced on the internet. In the video, a demolition derby driver can be seen ramming two different cars. The driver had placed the iPhone 14 model while wearing an Apple Watch Ultra in the vehicle. The driver also had a Google Pixel in the vehicle which has a similar feature. The testing showed that the Apple Watch Ultra worn by the driver was successful at detecting crashes. But on the other hand, the iPhone did not register the impact in the car. Check out WSJ’s video testing the devices’ Crash Detection features below:

The Google Pixel device did detect one crash inside the driver’s vehicle but neither of the two devices detect the crash during the second test. During the second crash test, the testers drove around the vehicles before crashing in to make the smartphones think the crash was legitimate. But the crash did not trigger the smartphone. As an important feature that was highlighted as one of the key reasons to get the new iPhone 14, this is surely a disappointing result. WSJ reached out to both Google and Apple after the tests. Apple revealed that the lack of data could be the reason why the iPhone 14 failed to detect the crashes. Not being connected to Apple CarPlay or not having the tester drive around the vehicle long enough could be the reason iPhone 14 failed to register the crashes.

iPhone 14 Pro’s camera bump causes wireless charging issues

Apple cannot seem to catch a breath these days! The tech giant was in a whirlwind when iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max users started complaining about the camera module shaking and making a rattling sound while using third-party apps. The recently launched iOS 16 update also brought upon a number of issues which were soon addressed. While the issues with new iPhone devices and iOS 16 were swiftly fixed by the company through updates, however,  a new issue that has surfaced on the internet surrounding the iPhone 14 Pro does not look like an easy fix. Read below to know more:

iPhone 14 Pro wireless charging issue

Lately, people using the iPhone 14 Pro models have been facing an odd issue. The thick camera module of the device is hampering its wireless charging capabilities which is an odd issue, to say the least! Users are complaining that there is no compatibility between standard wireless chargers and the iPhone 14 Pro due to its camera bump. The issue is now also being highlighted on multiple forums around the internet. The iPhone 14 Pro is quickly emerging as the second-most popular model of the 2022 iPhone lineup due to the revamped notch with Dynamic Island and the wireless charging issue is naturally expected to become mainstream in the coming days.

As it is a hardware issue, Apple cannot simply fix it and the issue is surely here to stay. Readers should note that this issue is only seen when the device is connected to a standard wireless charger and not Apple’s MagSafe charger. Users having the iPhone 14 Pro who want to use wireless charging might have to buy the MagSafe charger if they don’t already have one or stick to wired charging! MagSafe users who charge their devices on a stand are also facing the same issue. Reddit threads discussing the issue suggest that this is definitely a design flaw. There is no official word about this issue by Apple yet, let’s see if the company decides to speak up or keep mum about this, only time will tell!

Apple ditches the production of the iPhone 14 due to lower demand

Since Apple launched the iPhone 14 series at the Far Out event, it has been trending all over the world as it was one of the most awaited launches of the year. However, right after the launch of the iPhone 14 series, people noticed there’s not much to explore in the iPhone 14 (we’re not including the pro series iPhones and the all-new iPhone 14 Plus) except for a few substantial changes from last year’s iPhone 13.

The iPhone 14 is probably one of the best iPhones in the current market, but at first glance, it appears like a renamed replica of the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 has numerous notable upgrades, including a vibrant display, excellent cameras, safety features like Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection and, of course, a slightly more powered A15 Bionic chipset.

Earlier, Apple planned to make at least 6 million more units by the end of the year and asked its suppliers to increase the production of the iPhone 14 as the company expected strong demand. However, within a 4-weeks of the launch date, due to lower demand, the company decided to reduce the production of the iPhone 14.

The sales of the lower-priced iPhone 14 are not strong enough, while the sales of the over-priced iPhone 14 Pro models are getting more robust. Of course, due to the little to no price difference between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models. Also, the lowered price of the iPhone 13 plays a huge role in the game as it remains on sale for a reduced price.

The company has priced iPhone 14 at ₹79900 and the iPhone 14 Plus at ₹89900, which is very close to the price range of the iPhone 14 Pro models, which are loaded with a brand-new always-on display with Dynamic Island, a 48-megapixel wide camera, and the new A16 Bionic chip. Whatever the reason, Apple will surely make a profit out of it.

Awesome iOS 16 features you must try

Apple rolled out its latest iOS 16 update packed with a number of features. The newest version of the tech giant’s mobile OS has brought major changes to customization to the lock screen, Messages, and Mail, but that’s not where it ends. This year-round, iOS 16 brought some revolutionary changes to the lock screen which is now complete;y customizable, users can also stack notifications to the bottom of the screen now. However, like every year, Apple has made some minor enhancements to the overall feel of the software experience. These changes are easy to look over but ultimately contribute to helping users through little tweaks here and there. Here is a look at all the iOS 16 features that may have gone under your radar:

Share Wi-Fi password

Have you ever been in a position where you wanted to share your Wi-Fi password with a guest but don’t remember it? Well, I have! It is awkward, to say the least, but Apple has a fix for people like me. With iOS 16, users can view and share their Wi-Fi passwords whenever they want. All you need to do is tap on the ‘i’ button in the Wi-Fi settings. Tap on ‘password’ on the next screen and copy the password to share it with your friends and family.

Unsend emails

Users probably know that they can unsend a text on Messages with iOS 16. But did you know that you can do the same with mails? Messages have a two-minute window to be unsent in iOS 16, but the window is narrower for mails. Users can choose between 10, 20, and 30 second window to unsend their mails. The option can also be turned off if you think you don’t need this feature.

Folder for duplicate photos

iOS 16 now comes with a separate folder for duplicate photos. The photos app can let users know if they have multiple identical photos, allowing them to remove them and clear out the storage. It surely is a great way to declutter your device, preventing it from turning slow.

Extra security for hidden photos

When it comes to photo management, iOS 16 really has brought some helpful features. The new update has added another layer of security for the hidden photos folder. The hidden photos album now requires Face ID or Touch ID to get access. The recently deleted folder also now comes with the same security.

Quick Notes

The Quick Notes feature has been a staple to both macOS and iPadOS to quickly write down any thoughts without having to open the Notes app. However, iPhone did not have any such feature. Now, users can now start a Quick Note simply by tapping on an icon in the Command Center. Securing a note is now simpler as users can use the same passcode they use to unlock their iPhones to unlock their notes.

Face ID in landscape mode

iPhones running iOS 16 now support Face ID in landscape mode. Earlier, the unlock was only possible when the device was being used in portrait mode. Users should note that this feature is only limited iPhone and later.
