Samsung has announced new enhancements to its SmartThings platform, positioning it as a comprehensive smart home ecosystem designed to improve appliance reliability, convenience, and long-term performance for Indian consumers.
The platform serves as a centralised hub for Samsung’s connected appliances, allowing users to control and monitor devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, and home security systems through a single interface. Available on both Android and iOS, SmartThings also integrates with voice assistants, including Bixby, Alexa, and Google Assistant for hands-free operation.
A key focus of the platform is proactive appliance maintenance. Using AI-powered analytics, SmartThings continuously monitors appliance performance, identifies potential issues, and alerts users before they become major problems. Samsung says this approach can help reduce downtime, minimise service visits, and extend the lifespan of appliances.

For example, SmartThings can monitor refrigerator cooling patterns and notify users if temperature fluctuations suggest a maintenance check is required. Similarly, washing machine diagnostics can detect issues such as clogged filters and guide users through simple troubleshooting steps directly through the app.
The platform also includes energy management tools that provide real-time consumption data and AI-driven recommendations to help households optimise electricity usage. Samsung further states that connected appliances will receive up to seven years of software updates, ensuring continued performance, security, and compatibility with future smart home technologies.
SmartThings is closely integrated with Samsung’s Bespoke AI appliance range available in India. These include refrigerators equipped with AI Vision technology for food recognition, air conditioners featuring AI Geo Fencing and Welcome Cooling, and washing machines capable of adapting wash cycles based on usage habits and fabric types.
By shifting appliance ownership from reactive servicing to proactive care, Samsung aims to make smart home management more intuitive while enhancing reliability and efficiency for modern Indian households.
