Spotify has introduced a major update to its lyrics feature, aiming to make lyrics easier to understand, access and follow during playback. The new rollout focuses on three core improvements: global lyric translations, offline lyrics support and a refreshed lyrics display on the Now Playing screen. The update targets listeners who enjoy music across languages and those who often listen without a stable internet connection.
Lyric Translations Go Global
One of the biggest highlights of the update is the worldwide availability of lyric translations. Previously limited to select regions, the feature now allows users everywhere to view translated lyrics for supported songs. A translate icon appears on the lyrics screen, and tapping it shows the translated version below the original text. The translation language follows the user’s device settings, and listeners can switch back to the original lyrics anytime. Spotify says the feature helps users better connect with songs in unfamiliar languages.
Offline Lyrics Arrive for Premium Users
Spotify is also adding offline access to lyrics, but the feature is exclusive to Premium subscribers. When users download songs for offline listening, the lyrics are now saved automatically with the audio. This allows users to read lyrics without an internet connection, making it useful during flights, travel or in areas with poor network coverage. Earlier, lyrics required active data access even for downloaded tracks.
Lyrics Get a New Look on Now Playing
The update also redesigns how lyrics appear during playback. Lyric previews will now show directly on the Now Playing screen, below album artwork or Canvas animations. Users can expand to full lyrics, share lines, or turn previews off if preferred.
