Canon has launched the EOS R8 Mark II in India, a 24.2-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera following the original EOS R8. The body is priced at ₹1,78,995. Canon positions it as a compact, lightweight option borrowing tech from higher-end EOS R models.
Design and build
Canon calls the camera its smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless with in-body stabilisation. It measures 131.4 x 90.0 x 79.7mm and weighs about 546g with battery and card, while still keeping a proper grip. It’s also the first camera in its class in the EOS R lineup to get a multi-controller joystick for autofocus, letting users shift the focus point without leaving the viewfinder.
Sensor, stabilisation and autofocus
The full-frame sensor lets in roughly 2.5x more light than an APS-C sensor, improving low-light performance and providing a wider field of view at the same focal length. Canon’s 5-axis In-Body IS pairs with stabilised RF lenses via Coordinated Control IS, claiming up to 7.5 stops at the centre and 7.0 at the edges.
Creative tools
Two new filters, NegativeFilmtone and PositiveFilmtone, add on to the existing 14, now with adjustable strength. A Handheld Night Scene Mode and four colour modes (Blue, Black & Orange, Pink, Green) for low-light stills options, while the interval timer adds exposure smoothing, timer priority, and delayed start for time-lapses. Video tools also include an expanded Background Blur Creative Assist, plus carried-over Slow & Fast Motion Movie mode and Cinema View from the EOS R50 V.

Video and streaming
The camera shoots 6K-oversampled 4K at 60p and Full HD up to 180p with audio, with Canon Log 3 for grading. It also gets Custom Picture from the Cinema EOS line, supporting Custom LUTs and finer picture control. Streamers get four wired/wireless livestreaming options, including multi-angle streaming via the Live Switcher Mobile app.
VR and 3D features
Compatible with Canon’s full-frame and APS-C VR lenses, the camera supports a new VR Clear Mode that sharpens contrast for VR goggle playback without post-editing. Canon has also launched Dual Pixel 3D Converter software, which turns stills into 3D models using distance data from the Dual Pixel AF system.
New accessories and pricing
Canon has launched two accessories alongside the camera: the Extension Grip EG-E2 (₹9,995) and the Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR bundled with the Bluetooth Remote Controller BR-E2 (₹11,495). Canon hasn’t announced an India availability date yet.
Key specifications
Powered by Canon’s DIGIC X processor with 384-zone metering, the EOS R8 Mark II offers ISO 100–102,400 (expandable to 50–204,800) for stills. Shutter speed maxes out at 1/16,000s electronically (Fv/Tv/M) or 1/8,000s (P/Av). Video maxes out at 4K/59.94fps and Full HD/179.80fps, with up to ~6 hours of recording at 100fps or lower. It has a single SD card slot (UHS-I/II), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, 4K 60fps HDMI out, a 3.5mm mic input, and runs on the LP-E17 battery with USB-PD charging support.
