Infinix has yet again raised the bar by releasing its latest device from the Zero lineup—the Infinix Zero 40. Following its predecessor’s footsteps, the Infinix Zero 30, this new model aims to deliver features typically reserved for high-end smartphones, all within a budget-friendly price point. Priced around 25,000, the Infinix Zero 40 promises a blend of performance, design, and camera capabilities that could make it one of the best options in its category. But does it live up to the expectations? Let’s dive deeper to find out.

    Specifiction of Infinix Zero 40

Infinix Zero 40 Smartphone with Curved display

Design and Build of Infinix Zero 40

The first thing you notice when you pick up the Infinix Zero 40 is its sleek, slim profile. The device feels incredibly light and comfortable to hold, weighing just 193 grams. The design is truly premium, with a curved display that not only looks good but also enhances the in-hand feel. The back panel has been updated with a unique dual-texture design, adding a touch of elegance and premium to the overall appearance.

We received the violet garden colour variant, and it’s a beauty to behold. The shade is eye-catching yet classy and stands out in a crowd without being too flashy. The camera bump on the back is prominent, housing all the camera sensors. Although the bump is noticeable, it doesn’t wobble when kept on a flat surface.

The Infinix Zero 40 sports a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display, which ensures sharp and vibrant visuals. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which offers good scratch resistance, though we would still recommend using an additional screen protector. Given the curved nature of the display, it’s more sensitive to damage if dropped, despite Infinix’s promise of a one-time replacement warranty.

The device also has an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance. While this offers some degree of protection, you should avoid exposing it to heavy rain or submerging it in water. Thankfully, the device also includes a complimentary silicone case, which provides protection without compromising the design.

    Display

The 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display of the Infinix Zero 40 is undoubtedly one of its standout features. The impressive colour reproduction, deep blacks and vibrant hues make everything from watching videos to scrolling through social media a delightful experience. With a peak brightness of 1300 nits, the screen remains viewable even under direct sunlight, but a slight bump in nits could have been better in harsh sunlight conditions.

The Full HD+ resolution ensures that text appears sharp and images are detailed. The 393 PPI density is adequate for a display of this size, providing a crisp and clear viewing experience. The curved edges add a touch of elegance, although they can be prone to accidental touches, which might take some time to get used to. Nevertheless, this device’s display is a strong point, especially at this price range.

    Performance

The Infinix Zero 40 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate processor, one of the most capable chipsets in the mid-range segment. Paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, the device easily handles everyday tasks. During my two weeks of use, I found that the phone could handle multiple apps, social media browsing, web surfing, and even some light photo editing without any noticeable lag.

Gaming on the Infinix Zero 40 was a pleasant surprise. I tested it with popular titles like BGMI, and the gameplay was mostly smooth. However, there were occasional frame drop rates during extended gaming sessions due to thermal throttling. This is where the device’s slim design seems to have impacted its thermal management. A brief cooling period brought the device back to its peak performance, but it would have been nice to see better heat dissipation on this otherwise excellent device.

Benchmark tests are important for evaluating a smartphone’s raw performance, and the Infinix Zero 40 performs quite well in this aspect. The device scored 1009 in single-core performance and 3198 in multi-core performance. These scores indicate that the octa-core Mediatek 8200 Ultimate can deliver better performance than Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 and outperform its competitors in mid-range segment.

    Camera

The Infinix Zero 40 has a triple-camera setup on the back, led by a 108-megapixel primary sensor. Other sensors include a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Despite the high number of megapixels, it is important to remember that more pixels do not always ensure better quality. The primary sensor captures decent pictures in well-lit conditions, with good colour accuracy and detail. The software does a good job of optimizing the images, especially when it comes to skin tones, which look natural and balanced.

The 108-megapixel sensor really shines in low-light photography. The night mode helps bring out details in darker scenes, but some noise sneaks in, which is typical for phones in this price range. The ultra-wide camera performs adequately, but there is a noticeable drop in image quality compared to the primary sensor, especially in low-light conditions.

The front-facing camera has a 50-megapixel sensor that produces clear and vibrant selfies. The front LED flash is an impressive addition, greatly improving selfie quality in low-light environments. The device also supports 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, and the video quality is decent, with good stabilization for smoother clips.

One notable feature is the integration of GoPro connectivity within the camera app, which allows users to control their GoPros directly from the phone.

    Battery

Despite its slim design at just 7.9mm thick, the Infinix Zero 40 houses a massive 5000 mAh battery. It supports fast charging at up to 45W, and during our tests, it took only about 25 minutes to charge up to 60%, which is impressive. The phone also supports 20W wireless charging, and what’s even more surprising is its capability for reverse wireless charging. This means you can use it to charge other wireless devices, a feature rarely seen in this price segment.

In our battery drain test, which involved streaming a 4K movie from our NAS, the battery dropped by only 12% throughout the entire film, indicating excellent power efficiency. Whether gaming, streaming, or browsing, the Infinix Zero 40’s battery can easily last a full day of moderate use.

    Verdict

The Infinix Zero 40 is a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone segment, offering a blend of performance and design. Its slim design and curved AMOLED display give it a premium feel. The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate processor ensures smooth performance, while the 108-megapixel sensor doesn’t break new ground but does offer decent results for everyday photography. Features like the front LED flash and GoPro connectivity add extra value to the device. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly smartphone that doesn’t compromise performance or style, the Infinix Zero 40 is worth considering.
