OnePlus 10 Pro Is it worth buying?

OnePlus started as a brand with a killer tagline – Flagship Killer! They stood true to their claims by offering quality flagship-level products at mid-range prices. Today in 2022, the scenario is not the same for OnePlus. What was once a flagship killer is now a global flagship phone maker with flagship-level pricing. Their latest flagship product is the OnePlus 10 Pro and it carries a 60+ thousand rupees price tag, a flagship category price too. We will take you through 10 dimensions of the OnePlus 10 Pro and is it worth buying? Let’s continue, shall we?

Display – OnePlus 10 Pro comes with a slightly curved 6.7-inch QHD 2k LTPO2 Fluid AMOLED display that can switch from as low as 1Hz to 120Hz dynamically. With a 20.1:9 ratio display, this phone feels large and long. OnePlus also claims a peak brightness of 1300nits on HDR content but typically it is around 500-800 nits based on the content on that display. In isolation, this display is crisp and flagship-level quality but in comparison to Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, a phone that costs almost 20% less than the OnePlus 10 Pro, Samsung quality dwarfs OnePlus in comparison at the same brightness levels. Both these phones have Gorilla Glass Victus upfront for Protection. There is inconsistency in colour reproduction at different brightness levels.

Frame – This is a glass sandwich phone like most other phones. The front glass is a Gorilla Glass Victus, the rear gets Gorilla Glass 5 and the frame is aluminium to keep weight and sturdiness in check. Only the international T-Mobile variant comes with IP68 water and dust  Protection but the global variant gets no such claims. Rubber gaskets do tell us that this phone can handle some splashes and dirt easily. Weighing a little over 200gms, this is a two-handed phone.

Charging – There’s a healthy 5000mAh battery with a bundled 80W SuperVOOC charger, Oppo is the parent company so that’s a borrowed tech but arguably a better addition, especially in a world where Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, etc have stopped providing chargers in the box. The phone also features fast wireless charging up to 50w and reverse wireless charging with USB power delivery to power other devices via the Type C port.

Specs – Powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, blazing-fast RAM and UFS 3.1 Gen1 storage, this phone is a creme-de-la-creme of smartphone processing power. Gaming or multitasking is a breeze and a pleasure with a relatively long-lasting 5000mAh battery. What also aids gaming is the 480Hz touch sampling, making every input free lag-free and instant. Relatively low thermal throttles also inspire long gaming sessions.

Connectivity – There are multiple 5G bands supported. There’s also WiFi 6 along with 802.11 AX dual-band Wi-Fi support and something too obvious is Wi-Fi Direct with Bluetooth 5.2 with all its goodies.NFC – NFC enables a lot of ease when it comes to connectivity. One can tap to pay, share Wi-Fi passwords and connections, use Android Beam to share files between devices, touch to connect Bluetooth speakers and with NFC tags, the world of creativity is at your disposal.

Camera – Triple camera setup, a useful one with all cameras enhanced by Hasselblad algorithms. 2D – Second generation of P – phone camera with 50T – triple camera setup featuring a 50MP 150-degree field of view ultra-wide camera. Photos from all sensors 48MP primary with OIS, 50MP ultra-wide and 8MP telephoto camera with 3.3x optical zoom are neutral in colour with sometimes underexposed clicks but videos are super amazing with up to 8K 24fps shooting on the rear primary camera setup and only 1080p on the front 32MP selfie shooter. There’s 4k video capability with 30,60 and 120fps modes on the primary camera, 4k 60fps on the ultra-wide camera and 1080p 60fps on the telephoto camera.

As compared to the similar Samsung shot from an S21 FE, the camera performs almost at par but misses the Samsung vibrancy. Low light images and videos are impressive and evolution for OnePlus as a smartphone maker. One thing to note is that the new ultra-wide sensor gets no autofocus and also cannot double as a macro camera as its predecessor OnePlus 9 Pro. But there’s a fisheye mode that makes your photos and videos look like you shot from a Go-Pro camera.

Software – Oxygen OS now looks like it was adopted by Color OS of Oppo. It still gets no ads and Oxygen OS customisation suite but then again, there are reminisce of Oppo’s dominance here and there across the UI. Oh, it runs Android 12 based on Oxygen OS 12.1.

Choices – Available in two colours – Volcano Black, Emerald Green and an exclusive Glaciar White colour not sold in India. Also, it comes in two setups – 8GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. If you are considering this device, do not get the 128GB variant, games, apps, and cameras take up a lot of internal space.

Is it worth buying? – Priced over 60k and almost 70+k for the 256GB variant, this phone tries to compete with the top dogs of smartphone nirvana. At this price, the OnePlus 10 Pro enters a category of devices that do many things better than the 10 Pro while providing a whole new dimension to the flagship smartphone experience. If the price gets sweeter by 10K via deals, etc. or if you do consider shelling out this amount of money, products like the Samsung Galaxy S22, Apple iPhone 13, newest Asus ROG phone and many others look like a whole lot of value for money, don’t they!

Good – Overall phone design and experience

Bad – Speakers, Color-Oxygen OS

Ugly – Lack of AF on Ultra-wide camera, MSRP

Rating – 4/5

Specifications

Display – curved 6.7-inch QHD 2k LTPO2 Fluid AMOLED

After brands like Samsung, Oppo, and Realme, the next brand to join the fast charger bandwagon might be Apple. As per a leaked document for Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter by Apple, 9to5 Mac managed to take a screenshot before Apple took it off.

The deleted document read, “Use the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter and a USB-C cable (not included) to charge your device. Connect a USB-C cable to either port on the power adapter, extend the electrical prongs (if necessary), then plug the power adapter firmly into the power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible for disconnecting. Connect the other end of the cable to your device.”

The 35W of power could be sufficient to charge more than one iPhone, an iPhone, an Apple Watch, or a handful of different combinations of accessories.

According to the publication, the fast-charging capability of the iPhone 13 Pro Max that’s 27W, and it says that with 35W of power, the charger should charge an iPhone 13 Pro Max with an Apple Watch side by side. The tool helps USB-C Power Delivery as well.

It’s uncertain whether Apple plans to launch this accessory. We previously also heard that Apple is seeking to expand its lineup of power adapters, especially with GaN technology inside. This 35W Dual USB-C Port Power adapter should be Apple’s first standalone GaN charger. We must state that if the power adapter does launch, there is no confirmation from the brand with regards to the GaN generation mentioned in the leaked document.

Realme Smart TV Stick with Full HD Support Launching in India

The Realme Smart TV Stick will be the second streaming tool from the business enterprise after the Realme 4K Smart Google TV Stick, which was released in India in October 2022. The new version will be released in India on April 7 at 12:30 pm, and you can attend the event through the live stream on YouTube. The tool has been listed on Flipkart ahead of the launch, revealing a few key capabilities.

The mini stick supports an HDMI port and a miniature USB port associated with an electrical plug. As far as the equipment is concerned, the gadget is upheld by 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a quad-core ARM Cortex-A35 SoC. The 4K model comes with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

The gadget brings phenomenal Full HD picture quality, with 60fps content and HDR10+ support on the device and an HDMI 2.0 port.

Another significant change is the introduction of the Android 11 TV platform, rather than the Google TV UI like we’ve seen on the 4K stick. However, the device still supports all the streaming applications and will offer admittance to Google Play Store and administrations.

As far as price is concerned, you can expect the Full HD version to be valued lesser than the 4K model (Rs 3,999), and this will assume any semblance of the Mi TV Stick and Amazon Fire Stick in India.

Beginner’s guide to car audio systems

Introduction

Good sound or good music has the ability to delight your soul. A good audio system in your car is pure eargasm while on the move. If you’re new to the world of car audio systems, check out our article on how the in-car infotainment system evolved with time here and they seem to have become more sophisticated with each passing year.

Almost everyone has different opinions on car audio systems, and some people love the look of their factory stereo. If you have a late model car with an integrated infotainment system, upgrading the stereo can be difficult. In either case, there are several ways to improve a factory sound system.

One interesting thing about upgrading your car audio is that there’s no right way or wrong way to go about it, in fact, the best thing about upgrading factory audio systems is that almost any component you replace will at least represent a marginal improvement.

The guide to “car audio” starts with an understanding of what each component contributes to the overall audio experience you have. But it’s important to be able to identify the pitfalls that you notice in your car audio, then know the right fix for each problem.

However, no matter how many complexities arise in the technological aspect, a car audio system only has three basic components. So if you’re considering upgrading your car’s audio system, keep in mind that the components listed below are the ones you must include.

If you are going by the budget-conscious piecemeal route, then you must plan on how you want the final system to look and sound like. If you do that, you’ll end up with components that work pretty well together.

There are many options when you build a car infotainment system from the ground up, so people who have never performed this task may shy away from that sort of drastic change.

Now, if you dive in, consider the types of features you want your car to sound like.

If you’re working on a tight budget, you can do some things to improve the sound quality. You can even replace components one at a time, depending on what your speculated budget permits, and eventually, you’ll have a completely custom car sound system.

Know the main components!

Head Units

This is the brain behind everything. In the beginning, head units were simply radio tuners which, as time went by, became proficient in providing audio signals from cassette tapes and CD players. In the modern-day vehicles, the head unit is often integrated into its entire “infotainment system”, which is the central console that also often houses climate controls and provides navigation.

Today, most head units have USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, etc to connect other devices and play digital music, built-in satellite and Internet capabilities, and whatnot.

Now it is entirely up to you what you want in your car.

Either way, we advise you to end up with a head unit that is capable of powering the speakers. You can also go for a head unit with pre-amp outputs and an amplifier capable of fully powering the speakers.

Speakers

It’s an old rule of thumb, but it remains true: even the best car stereo won’t sound great on lousy speakers. If your car’s stock car audio system shows distortion, lacks clarity during high-frequency ranges, and blasts hollow bass notes, you may improve the sound system in your vehicle with a worthwhile speaker upgrade.

If your car only has two or four-speaker slots, they are probably coaxial speakers, which means a single speaker head features both the woofer and a tweeter. The easiest way to replace them is with better coaxial speakers, preferably made with more superior materials.

A decent set of front speakers might only set you back less than ten grand. Component speakers provide even better sound, but that’s a complicated upgrade that’s better paired with a new car stereo.

Discrete speaker components sound even better because the tweeters and woofers operate separately, producing greater sound clarity. But this upgrade often requires cutting new speaker mounts, complex rewiring, and other actions best performed by a technician, an experienced installer of sound systems for cars.

At least four speakers make up most car audio systems, although you can play with various configurations that will allow you to add more.

There are several types of speakers, including coaxial, component, and subwoofers. A coaxial speaker is one unit that houses both the tweeter, which takes care of the treble or higher range notes and the woofer, which deals with the Bass or the lower to mid-range frequencies. On the other hand, component speakers are simply a set of speakers that separate the woofer and the tweeters. Subwoofers, meanwhile, are designed to reproduce Bass and sub-bass that is typically lower than what a woofer can generate.

More often than not, car owners prefer upgrading the speakers that come with their car because its sound quality is often poor. Go for speakers that are constructed better and are usually made of cloth and foam. Some excellent speakers have rubber, metal, silk, and other synthetic materials. Car owners can enjoy full-bodied Bass, pristine sound in high-frequency ranges, and a lack of distortion with these speakers.

Amplifiers

Turning up the volume.

If you’re concerned about high volume, an amplifier is still an essential component you need to add to your system. You’ll probably need an amp with speaker-level inputs if you’re leaving the factory stereo in place, but some premium factory fitted head units come with line-level outputs.

It’s easy to overpower the speakers when you add a powerful amplifier to a factory sound system. With that in mind, consider upgrading the speakers first if you want to crank up the volume all the way blasting out of the windows.

As mentioned above, the speakers receive the audio signal from the amplifier and serve as the output devices that in turn convert the electrical energy of that signal into sound.

Despite what we said above about having great speakers, it’s also quite true that great speakers only sound as good as their amplifier. You may get an uplift in quality with new speakers alone. Still, discrete car audio systems will require more sophisticated amplifiers that can output to multiple, distinct speaker channels. A good amp can output well to tweeters and woofers, for example, and even subwoofers, for that matter.

An amplifier does precisely what its name implies; it takes the audio signal that the head unit sends out and amplifies it on its way to the speakers. Not only does an amplifier increase the power of that audio signal from the head unit, but it also improves the quality of the sound. With speakers hooked up to an amplifier, you should be able to turn up the volume without it producing crackling sounds and distorting the audio quality. The sound is cleaner, more unmistakable, all making your listening experience much much better.

Not all amplifiers are created equal, though, so you can vastly improve your car audio by simply upgrading your amplifier to superior ones.

Adding more Bass

If the only thing you’re missing is Bass, add a subwoofer to your factory system in either of the  two ways:

  • Add an amplifier and a subwoofer.
  • Add a powered subwoofer. Subwoofer in a car trunk

Powered subwoofers are a more straightforward proposition, but adding an amplifier and a subwoofer allows you more flexibility. Either way, a subwoofer is the best way to get that bass thumping.

If you want to go by the easiest way to add more bass to your car audio system, a powered amplifier with speaker-level inputs is the way to go. These units combine an amplifier and a subwoofer into one unit, and they can be hooked up to any factory or aftermarket head unit.

Doing it right

The most important thing to look for is a good wiring harness specifically designed for your vehicle requirements. This harness plugs into the factory wiring, so you won’t have to cut into any of your car stereo system wires and mess up with the electricals.

Some of these wiring harnesses are even designed to plug into a new head unit altogether, which means there’s no wiring involved at all. This is the easiest way to install a new head unit, and it ensures that you can pop the factory stereo back to stock any time you want.

What Does Your System Lack?

While many other components can affect the overall audio quality, those are the top three pieces of every car audio system. Now, consider the fact that your vehicle’s sound isn’t up to your expectations. What complaints do you have?

Your Speakers Buzz

Factory-installed speakers aren’t of the best quality, but you can easily upgrade to an aftermarket set that provides a broader range of sound. If you want an upgrade, particularly in the speaker department, install a separate woofer and tweeters along with component speakers for a good midrange sound.

There Is Not Enough Power

If the sound quality simply feels like it could need more “oomph”, your amplifier is likely the culprit in this scenario. Since it delivers more power to your new speakers, you should get more clarity without any kind of distortion.

There Isn’t Enough Detail.

If you’re a music-head audiophile, you know that layers of audio are very much essential to the full sound experience. An upgraded head unit could help enhance your jazz or classical listening, taking your hearing experience to another level.

Evaluating Your Car Audio System

If your car stereo sounds OK to you, that’s exactly what all the OEMs are looking for. Even factory-installed premium sound systems usually aren’t up to mark. So how can you tell if your factory audio needs a little tender loving care?

Here’s a test that anyone can do:

  • Sit in your car and close all the doors and windows.

  • Play your favourite music and turn up the volume.

  • Don’t be afraid to go higher than you usually would, but try avoiding blasting the sound and go blow-out-your-eardrums high.

  • Listen to the music and start noticing the drawbacks.

If you need to turn up the treble due to lack of clarity, that’s something that a speaker upgrade can fix.

If you turn up the bass figure, you have the Bass sounding hollow or empty, that’s also something an upgrade can fix.

If the music sounds distorted when the volume is up really high, that’s another thing you can take care of with a bit of tinkering with the amplifying system mentioned.

So, where do you start from? There are different ways to dig into a factory sound system upgrade. Answering a handful of questions can set you on the right path:

  • How important is your budget? Do you have much money to spend on upgrades?
  • Do you want to improve the sound while keeping your factory stereo?
  • Would you instead ditch the factory stereo and start fresh?
  • How important is Bass?
  • Do you like listening to your music loud?

You might be surprised at how the simple act of pondering those five questions sets you on the road to building a great car audio system.

Top 5 Wireless Keyboards

Being a part of the ongoing pandemic and information age, we all or at least most of us, prefer Work From Home over a traditional office. Whether you’re in your home or a corporate office, or anywhere else for that matter, we all use computers or laptops to make our life more accessible and smoother. Now, talking about the keyboard, it is an essential part of modern tech-based life. Without it, we can’t do much on our computers or laptops and being honest, most of the time when we’re not in a generous mood or when we’re typing a prompt mail or playing games, we use our keyboards like a punching bag and smashes every key of it like we’re a war zone soldier.

Though most keyboards are built to handle such pressures, what will you do if you lose a key or any key stops working? Well, for computers, you’ll have to buy a new keyboard or depend on the on-screen keyboard for that particular key but in the case of laptops, once you lose a key, restoring everything to its original state can be burdensome for some of us.

So, it’s better not to use in-built keyboards all the time, especially when you type for a long span and have a habit of pressing the keys in a vivid manner. Accidents can happen at any time, and to prevent them, we would recommend you to use Wireless keyboards, and if you’re looking for the same, you’re at the right place.

Why Wireless Keyboards?

Wireless keyboards are life-saving when you prefer a neat, decluttered desk or like typing comfortably with your keyboard on your lap. They help you type faster and are ideal for pairing with laptops or even computers at workstations or home. Wireless keyboards are travel-friendly compared to their counterparts and work best not only on your computer/laptop but also on your tablet, your phone, or even your TV. Nowadays, wireless technology is everywhere and has done an impeccable job in the past few years and finding the best one is tricky, and it all depends on how you’re going to use it, for work or a gaming purpose? So, before we hit the list, let’s take a quick look at specs to consider.

A perfect sized keyboard is always going to help you and light up your life. If you travel a lot, then go for a light one and if you’re a gamer, go for a smaller than average keyboard, as you’re not going to use it for typing. If you’re a writer or doing some sort of work related to heavy use of the keyboard, go for a more oversized keyboard to hit the keys comfortably. Look for a keyboard according to your preferred operating system because sometimes special characters matter. Gamers, keep in mind, if you’re an avid gamer, you’re going to need keyboards that connect to multiple devices with the press of a single button and a customizable option for RGB lighting or at least backlighting.

Well, for that purpose, you need a payment app. Sometimes, you have to transfer it to a friend, and you have no energy or intention to go to your campus’s bank ATM to take out the cash. Download GooglePay, PhonePe, PayTM, etc., for such instances, whichever suits you the most.

Apple AirPod Will Tell Whether You’re Breathing or Not

I follow the Science Monitor show that telecasts every Saturday at 2 PM. Now, some of you may not know, or some of you know who are preparing for some government exams. But, a tech nerd will ask me why am I talking about something out of the tech domain. If you want to know on which channel it comes, let me tell you a clear cut answer – RSTV (Rajya Sabha TV). Once, there came about a research that an IIT did on music’s impact on the human brain. I guess the Apple team took inspiration from it. According to Apple, their flagship product – AirPod, will help to monitor breathing rate. Now, that may look strange, but hey, why worry when Exhibit is there to unveil the mystery behind this research. Let’s know more about this new development.

I CAN BREATHE

George Floyd was not just a phenomenon. He came like that ignition engine that promoted the consolidation of human rights all around the world. And, “I can’t breathe” became the war-cry of that social movement that started last year. But, here, I want to talk about the “I can breathe” moment. The Apple research team has claimed that there’s a possibility through which they can measure your and mine respiration rate. How? Through the sound produced during the music beats or vocals during which we all breathe. Apple has come up with such results after testing it on 21 individuals by their “microphone-enabled, near-field headphones” technique.

How did they test?

During this research, the individuals got the instruction to record four one-minute audio clips. Now, to record audio clips, participants had to do them before, during, and immediately after the workout gets over. Individuals also had to go for some sort of workout for exactly nine minutes every time. This workout helped to induce huge palpitation and heavy breathing among the participants during the research. Once recorded, the pattern in the difference of sound was observed through the in-built versatile non-contact sensors (present also in Apple AirPod series). These sensors act as a breathing measurement instrument. After eliminating the acoustic distortion, researchers were able to come to a concrete conclusion.

Potential of this Apple AirPod Research

The Apple research team has clearly said that these trials were not for devising any clinical mechanism. However, the research paper can help out many in medical applications, one of which is working on cardiovascular therapy and other breathing tracking applications. But, through this Apple AirPod can create a complete revolution.
