Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 May Debut with Antioxidant Index Tracking

Samsung is gearing up to make waves in the wearable space once again, and this time, the focus seems to be on wellness like never before. The upcoming Galaxy Watch 8, rumoured to launch in the second half of 2025, could introduce a truly unique health-focused feature — the Antioxidant Index. Designed to give wearers a deeper look into their body’s wellness levels, this tool might help track beta carotene levels — a marker tied to your antioxidant status, right from your wrist.

According to a report by Android Authority, clues to this upcoming feature were uncovered through an APK teardown of the One UI 8 Watch build. This build, speculated to power the Galaxy Watch 8, includes code that reveals how the Antioxidant Index might work. Users may be prompted to place their thumb on a sensor located at the back of the watch, enabling a non-invasive measurement of antioxidant levels, which can then be viewed via the Samsung Health app on their smartphone.

The feature, still labelled as experimental in the Labs section, isn’t just another wellness gimmick. Samsung appears to be investing in meaningful innovation that taps into broader health metrics. Once the thumb is in place, the watch is expected to deliver an antioxidant reading, likely showcasing your daily average levels along with an assessment that reads either “adequate” or “low.”

It’s important to note that while the Antioxidant Index might sound like a groundbreaking tool, Samsung carefully points out that it’s not a substitute for medical-grade testing. Users are advised to consult a healthcare professional if the readings raise any concerns.

Another interesting detail from the APK teardown suggests that the feature won’t work with the wrist or index finger, only the thumb. For optimal results, users may need to wait at least 10 seconds between each reading, reinforcing the idea that Samsung is aiming for as much accuracy as possible within a consumer-grade device.

Though the feature could be rolled out to existing premium models like the Galaxy Watch 7 or Watch Ultra, current speculation strongly points toward the Galaxy Watch 8 being the first to ship with native support for the Antioxidant Index.

If the leaks hold true, the Galaxy Watch 8 could become a smartwatch that doesn’t just track your steps and heart rate, but also offers insights into how well your body is equipped to fight oxidative stress, a powerful evolution in wearable wellness tech. Could this be the most health-aware smartwatch yet? We’ll know soon enough.
