What Pointers You Should Consider Before Buying A Gaming Laptop?

Gaming laptops are not created and manufactured for every consumer; instead, they are built for a target audience seeking a laptop for a pure gaming experience. Generally, when gamers are looking for a gaming laptop, they don’t focus on just specs but look at a whole computer, including overall performance, display, built quality, and technical abilities. The process of investing in a good gaming laptop gets more challenging when you are confused about where to focus, on the processor or the cooling system or the keyboard? Well, relax! Don’t stress out more. We’re here to help you with essential pointers to keep in mind before buying a gaming laptop.

Let’s start with what kind of games do you play often? Every gamer has a preference when it comes to playing games. Some like to play Real-Time Strategy games such as Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, Age of Empires, and Starcraft, which require lower computing power than other games, while some like to play the latest triple-A titles games which require the latest-gen graphics card, a powerful CPU, and a good chunk of RAM. So, before spending your hard-earned money on a gaming laptop, ensure that it has everything you’re looking for while playing your favourite games.

CPU & GPU

What’s under the hood is what always counts, and that’s why CPU & GPU are two of the most prestigious performance drivers in a gaming laptop, and having a powerful CPU & GPU increases your gaming laptop’s overall performance. So, if you’re craving a lag-free gaming experience, then look for a 10th or 11th Gen Intel Core-i7 processor or AMD Ryzen 9-series processor. Also, if you don’t want to spend too much money, go for at least a dual-core i5 processor.

The high-intensity triple-A titles games like Assassin’s Creed, Cyberpunk 2077, or Watch Dogs need a lot of power and are GPU-dependent, making GPU the essential factor in gaming laptops. Currently, the Nvidia GeForce GTX or RTX GPUs are the appropriate GPUs in the market. GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 are the best ones to go for, and if you’re looking for a good middle-of-the-road, go for at least GTX 1060 and GTX 1050 to enjoy a fairly similar gaming experience.

RAM & Upgradability

The higher the RAM, the better the gaming quality. RAM plays a crucial role in a gaming laptop, and you should have at least 16GB of RAM in a gaming laptop. A gaming laptop with 8GB of RAM will work fine, but it won’t be a good investment for a gamer as it will not satisfy a gamer’s hunger after a while. Despite this, if you’re planning to get a gaming laptop with 8GB of RAM, then consider going for the one that comes with upgradeable RAM options so you can upgrade it in the future.

Display

What influences your gaming experience? A decent display with a faster refresh rate and higher resolution. If you’re dreaming about enjoying super-cool gaming sessions, then never go for less than a 1920 x 1080 display, as that’s the minimum resolution one should go for to enjoy gaming smoothly. Some gaming laptops offer a display of QHD (2560*1440) and 4K (3840*2160), but it costs you a hefty amount.

Keyboard

One of the most important components to consider before buying a gaming laptop is the keyboard, especially when you play a lot of shooting or strategy-based games. Check out whether it offers a decent key travel or not as it’ll help you reach the keys in a fraction of seconds and make sure whether it has an Anti-ghosting and n-key rollover or not, as it allows you to press and register multiple buttons at once. Also, check out how it feels to touch and ensure that the keys are neither too soft nor too hard to press. Finally, go for the one that offers all these things along with RGB backlighting keys as it allows you to play your favourite even during dark hours and customization on a per-key basis to ensure smooth gameplay.

Storage

When looking for a gaming laptop, consider buying the one that offers both SSD and HDD options. Go for at least 1 TB of HDD as most gamers save their progress of a lot of the games, which needs ample storage. A larger SSD will cost you extra money, but it will keep you away from the loading times.

Battery Life

One can not count a gaming laptop as a portable device as it requires a plugged in to get the full performance out of your GPU. So, try not to focus on battery life. A high-end laptop without a plug-in will manage to stay alive for 8 hours, but while gaming, it will last only an hour or two. So, the battery is not a concern until and unless you’re dealing with frequent electricity outages.

Sony’s Revised PlayStation 5 Model Weighs Less & Features Smaller Heatsink

Sony recently introduced a revised and lighter model of the PlayStation 5 that features some notable changes. The mini-refresh of the PlayStation 5 is easy to carry around and features a considerably smaller heatsink along with an easier-to-use stand screw.

YouTuber Austin Evans noticed the new changes when he ordered a lighter model from Japan, where the revised model is available for sale in stores. The newer and lighter PlayStation 5 model is also available for sale in Australia and some parts of the United States.

Evans ordered it for his video, and upon tearing it apart, he noticed minor changes, including a new screw for the stand and tweaked connections to the WiFi chip. He compared the revised PlayStation 5 with the existing model and realised there’s much more to explore in the new model.

The YouTuber noticed the new console’s fan sounds different than the existing PlayStation 5 model while playing the same game, and the aluminium and copper heatsink is now 300g lighter. The heatsink maintains and draws the heat away, which means a larger heatsink is always a better option.

However, Sony tried something different and shifted to a lighter heatsink which substantially pushes more air. The newly developed heatsink components are more affordable, but he noticed they are running at 3 to 5 degrees Celsius hotter than the original model.

The company hasn’t mentioned why it has come up with a revised model, but we’re assuming it is all related to cost-cutting as they’ve learned a few lessons after launching an original PlayStation 5, and now they know well about the cooling and other components and how they can use cheaper parts to make it more affordable.

Pokemon Go To Make Post-Pandemic Changes Permanent

Pokemon GO announced on its Twitter account today that it is bringing back the pandemic era Pokemon distance of 80 metres globally. The gameplay changes will be permanent and will remain as such for the rest of the game’s lifespan.

At the start of August, Niantic reverted the game interaction distance to the pre-pandemic 40-metres in the US and New Zealand, which brought about disappointment to the fans who previously appreciated the added accessibility benefits and COVID-19 safety the change offered.

The players have become accustomed to the game’s double interaction radius since it was first introduced 18 months ago. The move of reverting back the changes is a positive sign from Niantic that the company is willing to adapt to the needs of its players.

Niantic formed an internal task force to address player issues and the threat of a boycott. You can expect to know more about the findings of the task force by September 1st.

The game’s community had called on players to stop playing or spending money in the game as a mark of protest, with many of Pokemon Go’s most famous YouTubers joining in.

“Trainers – we’re looking forward to sharing our plans as a result of the task force on September 1, but one thing does not have to wait! From now on, 80 meters will be the base interaction radius for PokéStops and Gyms globally,” Niantic wrote last night. “Thank you to everyone who made your voices heard. We’ve heard you and understand that this has been a welcome benefit to many players. We’ll share more next week.”

Some people had already suggested that the changes should stay even after the pandemic since it will get people to become more active and to travel rather than being couch potatoes. Looks like the prayers have finally been answered!

Rockstar Games is Tipped to be Working on Remastering of Its PS2-era GTA Trilogy

One of the world’s most popular video game publishers, Rockstar Games, is tipped to be working on at least 3 remakes or remasters of its PS2-era classic Grand Theft Auto Trilogy- Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. According to the latest leaks by tipsters, the three games have reportedly reached the final scenes of development.

The rumours of remastering were in the air for a few months, and recently Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive confirmed the future plans but didn’t mention the exact titles. Since then, the gaming community from the world is excited to experience the yet-to-be launched games, and all the leaks related to the plan is grasping positive attention towards Rockstar Games’ GTA series.

The GTA trilogy games are being remastered using the Unreal Engine and will retain the same classic style. Also, a few reports suggest the games could be heavily modified versions of the existing titles. As per the reports, the titles mentioned above are expected to release on seven platforms, including the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and portable Nintendo Switch by the fourth quarter of 2021.

The above mentioned three games are expected to be launched in one single digital bundle instead of multiple launches. If the three remastered versions of the GTA trilogy games scores well in the market, then the New York-based company Rockstar Games is planning to release the remastered version of the original Red Dead Redemption.

If you’re a mobile gamer, you have to wait till 2022 as the mobile version of the three games will see the light of the day next year. Also, the company hasn’t announced anything officially about the remastered titles and taking a close look at Take-Two’s library of games, the three unannounced remasters could cover anything from Bioshock to Bully or Max Payne.

Microsoft Began Testing A New Night Mode Feature For Xbox Users

Nobody likes to play games with all the lights on, as playing games in a dark room benefits the gamer to build a gaming world atmosphere right from the comfort of home. Earlier, Xbox users complained about not having a night mode, but soon they will have a night mode to play comfortably after dark or in a dark room as Microsoft has started testing a new night mode with Xbox Insiders.

The under-testing feature allows users to dim and filter their screens, Xbox power button, and even the console and controller LED brightness through the console’s settings app. The feature also grants users many customisations options like multiple dimming levels, a blue light filter and more.

The software giant is allowing its users to set an Xbox to switch to the night mode manually and disable HDR when the night mode is enabled; switching modes will help users avoid scorching bright images. Users can schedule the toggling of modes at specific times or automatically set it to turn on at sunset and off at sunrise.

Currently, the new build to the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring of the Xbox is only live to a limited audience (only available for experiment) as Microsoft is testing the feature with Xbox insiders; the feature will pass various testing channels and soon the company will roll it out to all the users.

The new build will fix previous bugs linked with launching apps and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Xbox users, especially late-night gamers, were waiting for such a feature for a long time, and now that Microsoft has come up with one, the users will appreciate the efforts, as it’ll add consistency in their gaming. In the last couple of years, Microsoft has taken its rivalry competition seriously, and the company is trying to up their game by implementing a night mode feature.

Nintendo To Shut Down Services For Dr. Mario World Mobile

Nintendo has announced that it is shutting down the service for Dr Mario World from Nov. 1.

The puzzle game series was first launched two years back, in July 2019, and is the first of Nintendo’s mobile games to be shut down.

According to SensorTower, Dr Mario World was by far the worst-performing Nintendo Smartphone game as far as revenues are concerned. On the other hand, disappointing sales of Super Mario Run prompted Nintendo to give free models of the game.

By far, Fire Emblem Heroes remains the highest-grossing hit for Nintendo by a vast distance, generating more revenue than all the other games combined.

The notice in full reads:

Thank you for playing the Dr Mario World game.

The Dr Mario World game’s service will end on Nov. 1, 2021 (Mon).

We want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has played the game since it began service on Jul. 10, 2019.

Service end date and time:

Nov. 1, 2021 (Mon) at 6 a.m. (UTC)

Furthermore, diamonds will no longer be available for purchase from Jul. 28, 2021 (Wed).

After the end of service

If you start up the Dr Mario World game after the game’s service has ended, an end-of-service notification will be displayed, and you will not be able to play the game.

You will be able to look back at your play history in Dr Mario World Memories, a web page that will become available after the game’s service ends.

Conclusion

Nintendo did go out of its way to monetize the game, but not enough players are hooked on it to continue its operation. However, mobile games only account for a tiny portion of Nintendo’s overall earnings. Last year, Nintendo collected just 3.24 per cent of its revenue through ‘mobile games, which also included licensing deals.

A significant chunk of the income gets generated through Switch.

Nintendo Switch Back With Exciting Deals & Offers

Pandemic and consequent lockdowns have brought many things to a shortage. The dismantling of the supply chain halted many lives. It also happened for the people who turned towards gaming as their alternative during idle time. Nintendo Switch once faced the low-inventory syndrome for a long time during this pandemic period. Now, questions like how it happened and when it happened are out of the debate topics. The good news that is coming out for gamers is that the Nintendo switch will be easily available after primary e-commerce and online retail stores have started keeping this product in bulk. Let’s know more about this latest update through this Exhibit blog.

Nintendo Switch Back into the Market

Many firms like Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, and others have started keeping a bigger stock of Nintendo switch products after a global shortage was witnessed. Hence, you can get wide variants in configurations and colors of this product. Apart from this, you may find lucrative and exciting deals related to the newest version of Nintendo – the Nintendo Switch OLED model.

Where to find these products?

As mentioned above, many online retail and e-commerce websites will help you find your most desired Nintendo console. Among them, the most popular one is Amazon. From Amazon, you can find three memory variants of the Nintendo switch – 64 GB at $314 (INR 23,370/-), 128 GB at $326 (INR 24,263/-), and 512 GB at $344 (INR 25,603/-). There’s hardly any difference in price against the memory upgrade for each variant. If you are thinking of getting the Lite variant of the Nintendo console, all famous platforms can deliver you at a price of $199 (14,811/-). If you think that a concern of quality may arise, you can directly visit the Nintendo website and explore all the products and order them online.

About Nintendo Switch

On UN World Wildlife Day (3rd March) in the year 2017, Nintendo released its new product Nintendo Switch console, worldwide. This wireless console has a Joy-Con controller with standard buttons and analog sticks for directions. This console looks like a highly portable tablet, which means you can connect the same directly to television sets. The best part about this gaming console is that it supports both local and internet connectivity, due to which a supersonic player like you can enjoy online games. In addition to this, Nintendo products are cheaper than PS; many can opt for it and have a power-pack gaming experience for sure.

The doting journey of DotA!

When it comes to gaming, there is hardly any doubt that DotA is one of, if not the most influential and lucrative game of all time. Since its inception, it has amassed a large and loyal following of millions of players. Despite DotA being a free-to-play game, its community ensures that its creator, Valve, is heartily remunerated. Be it via skin grabs or tournament passes, but player transactions have admittedly been one of the significant sources of funding for DotA 2 prize pools. But how did it go from being a simple mod to an international sensation? Well, it’s quite a journey!

The Origins:

DotA is one of the most successful games of all time. Its creators, Valve, are responsible for the game’s meteoric rise. At the same time, while Valve is responsible for the success of DotA, it’s important to note that this game was initially built by the community. The Aeon of Strife mod is an excellent example of tracing DotA’s roots back to the beginning. It was built on top of Blizzards popular real-time strategy game, Warcraft. It was eventually ported to newer versions of the game. This game is where the basics of MOBA were born. Unlike the modern version, it lets players control their units and has a custom map. This game was a co-op affair, played against AI teams. It featured a three-lane system, which allowed players to creep towards a foe’s base without much difficulty.

Created by modder Kyle “Eul” Sommer, the mod was quite akin to modern-day DotA. Five players would compete against five others on a map with three lanes, destroying the opposition base, with creeps running down each lane. Each unique playable character had different abilities and progression. The basics of DotA were born here.

The Rise:

Despite the mod’s popularity and not realising that he had developed what would become one of the most financially successful genres ever, Eul stepped away from developing DotA shortly after launching it. He did try to create a sequel, but it never really took off, and his involvement in DotA eventually fizzled out (later, he ultimately signed away all of his ownership of DotA to Valve).

As many tried – and mostly failed – to create other versions of DotA, it became clear that it would be DotA: Allstars, developed mainly by another modder, Steve “Guinsoo” Feak, that would be the main version of DotA in the future. Allstars is, for the most part, what people mean when they refer to the original DotA. The version played for years on the pro circuit and ultimately what set the base for DotA 2.

After a couple of years, Guinsoo, along with Steve “Pendragon” Mescon, who built the DotA community hubs, would go on to Riot Games and make League of Legends (another hugely popular MOBA with many similarities to DotA), leaving control of DotA: Allstars with IceFrog, the mysterious developer who would go on to become the single most influential person in the history of DotA.

The Ice Frog Era:

IceFrog didn’t come in and change everything, but he did become the primary person responsible for balance and new content, shaping the way gamers played DotA. DotA continued to be a massively successful game with no support from any significant developers or publishers. The entirely fan-made game became one of the biggest esports in the world, with major tournaments and thousands of dollars up for grabs. But with the launch of League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth, it became clear that the MOBA genre would become a big deal, and DotA needed backing to stay relevant. That is where Valve came in.

In 2009 IceFrog revealed he had joined Valve and worked on a project with them, which everyone under the sun instantly realised would be MOBA. But it wasn’t until 2010 that we first got official word of DotA 2. Valve revealed the game and that it would be released in beta form in 2011 but gave some press access to the game earlier – and early signs were positive. Outside of a controversial trademark filing for the term ‘DotA’, which sparked years of legal battles, DotA 2’s development went reasonably quiet for a good few months.

The International:

Then the giant gaming expo Gamescom 2011 rolled around, and Valve decided that the best way to show off DotA 2 to the public was to host a $1.6 million tournament, the largest prize pool ever at an esports tournament time. The small booth in the middle of Gamescom showed off the game not just to those in attendance, who also got invitations to the beta, but the wider world who were all watching the live stream of the competition. It turned out to be a genius move, with thousands of people learning what DotA was and instantly wanting to play the game.

Valve started to invite more and more people to the beta as the months rolled on, and a pro scene began to form. It was small initially, with most online tournaments and prize pools that rarely topped the $25,000 mark.

But it was the start of what would become the most significant pro scene in all of gaming. Before long, a year had passed since the Gamescom reveal, and The International 2 was announced with another $1.6 million prize pool; they held it in Seattle. With a more extensive player base and the public being able to get into the beta if they wanted to, this was when the DotA scene started to take off. The game was also in a much-improved state, and while it still didn’t feature all of the content from DotA, it had a much larger hero pool and was considerably easier to use, making the action even better.

The year between TI2 and TI3 saw massive growth for DotA 2. The game was finally officially released on Steam for everyone to play in mid-2013, resulting in an enormous new player wave. Valve also brought in crowdfunding for the TI prize pool, which boosted the cash on offer by over $1 million. TI3 was a breakout tournament for DotA. The epic grand final between Natus Vincere and Alliance remained the most iconic DotA match in history and was responsible for bringing in thousands of new players.

The Ancients:

DotA continued to rapidly over the next few years, and the tournament scene also continued to evolve. TI remained a massive deal every year, with the crowdfunding drives continuing to bolster the prize pool every year, adding to TI’s long reign as the largest prize pool in esports history. By TI6, the prize pool had broken the $20 million mark, and by TI9, there was more than $30 million on offer.

Valve and IceFrog continued to develop the game, with DotA 2 finally getting the complete roster of heroes from DotA in 2016 and new heroes being added from there on out. Valve later updated DotA 2 to run on its Source 2 engine in the ‘Reborn’ update that completely changed the UI and is one of the most significant updates DotA 2 has ever seen. Since then, the UI and general systems around the game have remained very similar.

Then in 2016, the 7.00 update was released, and it ushered perhaps the most significant shift to the core gameplay of DotA in a decade. Valve overhauled the map, new features added and rebalanced almost everything in the game somehow. It started the trend for a significant game-changing patch to be released in the late stages of each year, but none have quite had the game shifting impact that 7.00 had on DotA.

The Conclusion:

These days the game remains incredibly popular, and the pro scene is still one of the top esports in the world. Millions are given away in prize money every year, and The International continues to be the biggest esports event of the year.

It has been well over 15 years since it first started, but the crazy thing is that if you look back at the first versions of the original mod, you can still tell that at its core, it’s the same game that people are playing today. With no signs of DotA massively slowing down anytime soon, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the game dominate for the next ten years as well.

Gadgets To Keep You Cool & Busy At Home

Summer has arrived and we’re already struggling with it; due to global warming and extreme heatwaves, many parts of the world are supposed to undergo one of the hottest summers in recent years. Along with scorching summer, humans are also worried about the Covid-19 pandemic and its newly developed mutants.

While several vaccine facilities are available now to beat the pandemic, and there are plenty of traditional ways to beat the heat, for instance, diving into the ocean or a pool, travelling to the nearest hill stations. However, in these harsh times, we can’t do much as staying home is the best alternative we have, and in order to save ourselves from the wrath of the pandemic, we must have to follow the rules.

Nevertheless, it turns out there are a lot of innovative gadgets available online to keep you cool and occupied at home during these untimely days, plus there’s nothing quite like the excitement of buying a brand new gadget. With that in mind, here’s a compiled list of gadgets that could be beneficial for you.

The FPV system was initially designed for the drone racing industry, and it consists of the DJI FPV Air Unit Module, DJI FPV Camera, DJI FPV Goggles, and DJI FPV Remote Controller.

The intriguing new breed of drone radiates the view from its camera to a headset back on terra firma that means its first-person view allows you to see what the drone sees, which means you can roam around and enjoy the outer world without even walking out of the house. The drone also provides an incredibly immersive flying experience; thanks to the fantastic DJI FPV Goggles, it also features equally compelling video footage from the forward-facing camera.

The DJI FPV is mainly aimed at shooting mesmerised FPV 4K video, and it has the ability to shoot still images at a primary level; the drone is easy to fly in Normal mode and suitable for beginners who’re trying their luck at flying for the first time.
